Durov announced a new achievement for Telegram. In the last 72 hours alone, 25 million new users have joined Telegram

Pavel Durov said that in the first week of January, Telegram’s active user base exceeded 500 million people a month. In the last 72 hours alone, 25 million new users have joined Telegram, including 38% from Asia, 27% from Europe, 21% from Latin America.
This is a significant increase from last year, when 1.5 million new users were registered every day. Throughout our 7-year history of protecting user privacy, we have seen spikes in downloads. But this time it’s different. People no longer want to trade their privacy for free services. They no longer want to be held hostage by tech monopolies who seem to think they can get away with it as long as their apps have a critical mass of users.

The Telegram leader said the messenger is the largest haven for those looking for a privacy and security-focused communication platform. At the same time, he added that the service team highly appreciates this and will definitely not let users down.
He also quoted from an old post published in 208:
You – our users – were and always will be our only priority. Unlike other popular apps, Telegram has no shareholders or advertisers to report to. We do not make deals with marketers, developers or government agencies. Since our launch in August 2013, we have not disclosed a single byte of our users’ personal data to third parties. We do this because we don’t see Telegram as an organization or an app. For us, Telegram is an idea; it is the idea that everyone on this planet has the right to be free.
