Due to technological issues, BOE will not supply screens for iPhone 15 and new iPads

The iPhone 15 line, which is due out in six months, will not have models with BOE screens. The Chinese supplier reportedly encountered “technological problems” while producing screens for Apple this year.

Citing The Elec and Chosun Biz, DigiTimes writes that BOE does not have enough time to prove that it can produce the required OLED panels for the iPhone 15 on a large scale.

Initially, BOE was expected to supply LTPS OLED panels for use in two mid-range iPhone 15s, but the company experienced poor and inconsistent performance due to technology issues. Therefore, it is almost impossible for her to start mass production in June 2023.

The report adds that LG Display and Samsung Display will very likely be the sole suppliers of OLED panels for the iPhone 15. Samsung Display is expected to produce the majority of these panels. This is because the supplier has a higher production capacity compared to LG Display.

Apple is believed to have sought to bring in BOE to reduce its reliance on Samsung Display. BOE was expected to supply 6.1-inch bezels for the upcoming iPhone.

In addition, BOE is also missing orders for OLED displays for the new iPads. Reports from the supply chain indicate that Apple will release the first iPad models with OLED displays in 2024. Samsung Display and LG Display have already been asked to prepare panel production, but BOE has not received the same request from Apple.

Xiaomi has introduced Redmi Book Pro laptops for the 2024 model year, which differ in processors and screen diagonal.

The battery capacity of the 14-inch Redmi Book Pro 14 2024 laptop has been reduced to 80 Wh, although the developers promise that the laptop will still work for a very long time. The included charger has a power of 100 W. The screen has a resolution of 2.8K and supports a frequency of 120 Hz. Prices:

  • Intel Ultra 5 125H/16 GB/512 GB – $700;
  • Intel Ultra 5 125H/32GB/1TB – $765;
  • Intel Ultra 7 155H/32GB/1TB – $900;

Let us remind you that the Redmi Book Pro 16 2024, which we have already written about, is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra processor and uses two fans and three heat pipes to dissipate heat. The laptop received 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Last year’s model had 16 GB. Redmi Book Pro 16 has a 3.1K resolution screen with a refresh rate of 165 Hz, it covers 100% of the P3 color space, offers a brightness of 500 cd/m2 and supports Dolby Vision.

Research organization Counterpoint Research has published a ranking of the best-selling smartphones last year. It differs from the ranking of smartphones with the largest shipments, which was published by Canalys.

According to the ranking, Apple’s iPhone 14 was the best-selling model last year, accounting for 3.9% of global sales. The US and China together account for half of total sales. The iPhone 14 accounted for 19% of all line sales last year, while the iPhone 13 accounted for 28% in 2022.

The slight difference between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 has led to less adoption of the base model and increased sales of the iPhone Pro models, which offer more features. The first 7 places are occupied by Apple smartphones.

It is also reported that the iPhone 15 series took the top three positions on the global bestseller list in the fourth quarter of 2023, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max became the best-selling smartphone.
