DragonBox Pyra Mini PC Will Reach First Customers Soon 4 Years After Pre-Order Start

DragonBox Pyra is a pocket computer with a 5-inch display and a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels, a QWERTY keyboard and a gamepad. The product has been in development for over five years, and 4 years ago it was pre-ordered. The company says it is already preparing the first batch for shipment, and soon the first customers will receive their sample.

Despite the presence of a gamepad, DragonBox Pyra can hardly claim to be a gaming mini-PC. At least it won’t stand up to the competition with GPD and One Netbook mini-laptops.

DragonBox Pyra is an enthusiast and enthusiast project using open source hardware and software. In addition, this mini PC is fully modular and only requires a screwdriver to replace any item.

The device runs on the TI OMAP 5 platform – 2 ARM Cortex-A15 cores with PowerVR SGX544 graphics. The maximum RAM capacity is 4 GB and the storage capacity is 32 GB (eMMC). Unfortunately, due to the delay in product release, the performance of the platform has lost its relevance. But the functionality of this “baby” is impressive.

The DragonBox Pyra Pocket PC comes in four versions at the following prices:

  • Standard Edition with 2 GB of RAM for € 500;
  • Standard Edition with 4 GB of RAM for € 529;
  • Mobile Edition with 2 GB RAM and 3G / 4G modem for € 600;
  • Mobile Edition with 4 GB RAM and 3G / 4G modem for € 626.

The dimensions of the DragonBox Pyra mini-PC are 139 × 87 × 32 mm. D-Pad, 6 buttons, 2 analog joysticks, 4 shoulder buttons are offered as game controllers.

At the same time, the device contains speakers, a volume control wheel, 2 slots for memory cards, a built-in microphone and a vibration motor. The installed battery capacity is 6000 mAh, which is enough for 10 hours in standby mode, which is explained by the problem of the platform itself. For connecting external devices, HDMI ports, 2 × USB 2.0 Type-A, micro USB 3.0 and a separate micro USB for debugging are offered.
