DisplayPort 2.0 implementation delayed due to pandemic

Introducing DisplayPort (DP) version 2.0 in June 2019, the first significant update to the DisplayPort standard since March 2016, industry organization VESA announced that the first DP 2.0-enabled products are expected to hit the market by the end of 2020.

This deadline has passed, but so far no product has been presented, in the description of which DP 2.0 support would be mentioned. According to VESA, the implementation of the new version of the standard has been delayed – mainly due to the pandemic. It thwarted PlugTest events, where engineers and equipment designers gather to discuss the implementation of the standard and come up with appropriate solutions. Usually VESA has held several such events a year, but in 2020 – none.

The next PlugTest event is scheduled to take place this spring. With this in mind, products with DP 2.0 support may not appear in stores earlier than in the second half of the year.
