Developing Countries Fight To Buy Huawei Data Centers Despite US Espionage Warnings

Published

on

Since 2006, many developing countries have signed agreements with Huawei to provide data centers and cloud infrastructure. A study by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) indicates that over the past 15 years, Huawei has entered into 70 deals to provide such services with related institutions or businesses in 41 countries.

The source adds that the governments of these countries are competing for Huawei’s cloud services, as the company’s solutions are cheaper than most alternatives on the market. However, in developed countries, the fate of Huawei’s new data centers is questionable.

Most of the countries that have agreements with Huawei are located in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America. Huawei said in a statement: “As a cloud infrastructure and service provider, Huawei does not own or control any customer data. All customer data is owned and fully controlled by our customers. ” Network security and protecting user privacy remain Huawei’s top priorities. ”

The US has repeatedly accused Huawei of spying for the Chinese government by exploiting telecommunications loopholes in its equipment. Washington also blacklisted Huawei and its subsidiaries, banning them from purchasing semiconductor products and devices that use American technology.

China has repeatedly dismissed these allegations as unfounded and accused the United States of “abuse of power” in imposing sanctions against Huawei. Amid the sanctions, the world’s largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei has sharply surrendered its positions in the smartphone market.
