Desktop GeForce RTX 4090 vs mobile. Tests have shown how big the difference is between cards with the same name
The top Nvidia graphics cards for the desktop and mobile segments in the new generation of Ada Lovelace, unlike Ampere, are named the same. However, technically, the mobile and desktop RTX 4090 are completely different solutions. The authors of the TechSpot resource decided to check how big the difference between these 3D maps is in reality.
First, let’s recall that the desktop RTX 4090 is based on the AD102 GPU with 16,384 CUDA cores and offers 24 GB of memory with a 384-bit bus. The mobile RTX 4090, which is almost a complete copy of the desktop RTX 4080, is powered by an AD103 GPU with 9728 CUDA cores and has 16 GB of memory with a 256-bit bus.
Of course, with such an impressive difference in parameters, performance will differ significantly. And according to the tests, we see that in Full HD the desktop flagship is ahead of the mobile by only 21% on average, and in some games the mobile card somehow manages to be faster. At 1440p, the average difference rises to 36%, and a mobile card is never faster than a desktop one. In 4K, the desktop monster is ahead of the mobile counterpart by an average of 56%, and the maximum difference reaches an incredible 87%.
In this case, it is also worth noting that we are talking about a mobile RTX 4090 with a maximum power limit, while not all laptops will offer such an adapter, which you need to keep in mind before buying.

Lenovo Legion Y7000P 2023 gaming laptops introduced. Top version includes Intel Core i7-13700H and GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop

Lenovo introduced the entry-level gaming laptop Legion Y7000P 2023. In fact, it is very similar in terms of parameters to the geekbook – Lenovo GeekPro G5000, but the Y7000P is positioned a little higher.
The Legion Y7000P 2023 is equipped with a 16-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, a frame rate of 165 Hz, and a brightness of 350 cd/m2. and covering 100% of the sRGB color space.
In the base there is an Intrel Core i5-13500H processor and a dGPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop, and in the top version there is a Core i7-13700H and GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop. The amount of DDR5 RAM is 16 GB (two slots, so the amount of RAM can be increased), SSD – 1 TB.
Also in the configuration are Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet 2.5 Gigabit adapters, a 140 W charger connected to the USB-C port, and an 80 Wh battery. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but this model shouldn’t be much more expensive than the GeekPro G5000.

Is it time to finally retire video cards with 2-3 GB of memory? Halo Infinite no longer runs on these adapters

Video cards with a small amount of memory can sometimes still perform well in modern games, if we are talking about the flagship solutions of yesteryear. However, now there is at least one game where accelerators with less than 4 GB of memory simply will not work. This is Halo Infinite.
A fresh patch for this game now simply does not allow you to run it on a PC with video cards that have less than 4 GB of memory. At the same time, such changes are not mentioned in the description of the patch.
It can be noted that the requirement in the form of at least 4 GB of memory has always been in the game, but usually such requirements are conditional. In particular, Halo Infinite ran on inappropriate 3D maps prior to the patch. For example, there are a lot of videos on the Web where the game is tested, including on a GeForce GTX 1050 with 2 GB of memory, which is quite enough to play even in Full HD with minimal graphics quality settings. But there is a much more powerful GeForce GTX 1060 3GB, which feels quite tolerable even in more demanding games.
There is a possibility that the restriction is just a mistake and will be removed soon. But not at all a fact.
