Yesterday, sales of the flagship Mate 50 smartphones started in China, and almost immediately, buyers booked the entire available online volume. The situation is similar in retail, but there are some nuances.

Demand for the Mate 50 is wild in China, resellers are driving up prices, but Huawei has come up with a method to deal with it

A salesperson at a Huawei-authorized store in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, revealed that the Mate is out of stock in 50 certain colors. Some can be ordered and received until November (before the 11.11 sale), and some will have to wait until the new year. Most of all, the demand for versions with heavy-duty Kunlun glass, the usual versions of the Mate 50 in certain colors can still be bought here and there.

In order to eliminate resellers at least from ordinary retail stores, Huawei came up with such an interesting move: customers are required to activate their smartphones right in the store. A source close to Huawei said that in this way the company is struggling with the further resale of phones at a higher price. And indeed, if the user wants a new sealed smartphone, then he will not buy the previously activated device. On the other hand, given the hype around the Mate 50, it is likely that pre-activated smartphones will also be sold out, perhaps with a lower margin.

Huawei is rumored to be ramping up its production plan to 10 million smartphones amid rush demand. True, it is not yet clear how long the company expects to sell so many devices.
