Daimler, Volvo and Traton plan to create a joint venture to develop a network of truck charging stations

Three major European truck manufacturers – Daimler Trucks, AB Volvo and Traton – have announced plans to form a joint venture to build a network of charging stations for electric long-distance trucks and buses.

Lack of charging infrastructure has been a major obstacle to the massive adoption of battery-powered vehicles, fueling fears of not being able to recharge an EV on the go.

The three companies, which produce electric trucks and are competitors of each other, are investing in the joint venture 500 million euros in equal shares. It should begin work in 2022. The headquarters of the joint venture will be located in Amsterdam.

“From now on, we will be open in all directions, allowing other parties to cooperate with us and actually participate in the capital in the joint venture”, – quotes the source of the words of Traton CEO Matthias Gruendler (Matthias Gruendler).

The goal of the joint venture is to deploy and operate at least 1,700 charging stations within five years.
