Create their own Instagram for children with parental control

The Facebook social networking team is gearing up to launch a standalone Instagram app targeting children under 13.

Facebook has already presented the project within the company, but it has not been launched to the public. Facebook spokesman Joe Osborne said:

“Increasingly, children are asking their parents if they can join apps that will help them communicate and be on the same page with friends. And right now, parents don’t have many options, so we’re working to create complementary products – as we did with Messenger Kids – that are child-friendly and parent-controlled. We plan to bring a parent-driven system to Instagram so kids can connect with friends, discover new hobbies and interests, and more. ”

At the moment, according to the rules of Instagram, users can register from the age of 13 and older. Accounts believed to be owned by users under the age of 13 can be reported to the administration.

Smartphone makers including Apple to be forced to allow deletion

India plans to force smartphone manufacturers, including Apple, to allow removal of pre-installed apps and mandatory checking for OS updates under proposed new security rules.

According to two sources and a government document seen by Reuters, smartphone manufacturers will have to enable the ability to uninstall pre-installed apps, and new models will be tested for compliance by a laboratory authorized by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Apple already allows you to remove many of its own apps, but core apps like Messages, Photos, and Phone can’t be removed from the phone: they can only be removed from the Home screen and hidden in the App Library.

India’s Ministry of Information Technology is reviewing regulations on concerns about espionage and abuse of user data with explicit references to the risk from China.

“Preinstalled apps can be a weak link in security and we want no foreign countries, including China, to use them,” an unnamed official said. “This is a matter of national security.”

After a border clash with China in 2022, India banned more than 300 Chinese apps in the country, including TikTok. The country has also stepped up its controls on investment by Chinese firms.

Chinese brands account for more than half of all smartphone sales in India.
