Core i5-13500 – “a processor with superior performance.” Big test showed it’s the best CPU for $250
One of the first big reviews of the Core i5-13500 processor has appeared on the Web. This CPU is interesting in that its configuration is better than the Core i5-12600K, it is identical to the Core i5-13600K, and compared to its predecessor, the new product has significantly more cores. It only costs $250.
The processor configuration includes six large cores, eight small ones, and the frequencies are 3.5-4.8 GHz.
As you can see, the results of the novelty are highly dependent on the application. However, this is true for any modern multi-core processor: you need to choose it for specific tasks.
In general, the Core i5-13500 can be compared with the Ryzen 7 7700/7700X. In a number of applications, the brainchild of Intel is faster, and in some, AMD’s new products are ahead. However, if you take a closer look, it turns out that AMD eight-core processors are often faster. The problem is that they are significantly more expensive. The same Ryzen 7 7700 costs $330, while its older brother costs $350. Intel’s direct competitor in terms of price is the Ryzen 5 7600X, which, after being cheaper, costs just $250. But this CPU is often inferior to its competitor.
It is also worth noting that there are applications where the Core i5-13500 with DDR4 noticeably or very much loses to itself, but paired with DDR5. However, DDR4 support allows you to build a cheaper PC if necessary.
In games, the Core i5-13500 does not look so good anymore. Of course, in absolute terms, it is far from being so bad, but it is still inferior even to the Ryzen 5 7600, which is both cheaper and more economical.
In terms of power consumption, the Core i5-13500 looks good, performing on par with the Ryzen 7 7700X.
Thus, for its price, the Core i5-13500 is an excellent CPU. TechSpot called it the best non-unlocked Raptor Lake and superior performance processor.

It is difficult to explain such an increase by inflation and the laws of the market alone. Most likely, the rise in price is due to the transition to DDR5 and the introduction of support for the PCIe 5 bus.

The processors in the top version are Intel Core i9-13900H or AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, the graphics accelerator is GeForce RTX 4070. The maximum amount of DDR5-5600 MHz RAM is 32 GB. The package includes a 230W power supply, both USB-C ports of the laptop support 140W charging.
Lenovo Legion Y9000X 2023 (based on Intel CPU) will go on sale in April starting at $1,770. Legion R9000X 2023 (on AMD CPU) will be available in May, starting price is the same.
