Toyota unveiled the GR GT3 concept sports car in January 2022 at the Tokyo Motor Show. Moreover, for the concept, it was distinguished by a rather serious study of the body. As it became known now, not just like that: the car will go into series and in two versions at once. This was told by the director of the Toyota WEC Team Rob Leupen (Rob Leupen).

The first option is an endurance racing car (WEC), which will take part in the championship from 2026. The second – and clearly more interesting – serial sports car. “date [2026] coincides with the development of road cars, which follows the philosophy of Toyota to have a car built for motorsports on the road” said Rob Leupen.

In early 2022, Toyota Racing Development President David Wilson hinted that the GR GT3 could be branded Lexus. Of course, Rob Leupen was asked about this, and he answered: “At the moment, it appears so. It depends on how it develops inside Toyota, but at the moment – yes“.

Why are we talking about Lexus? It’s simple: next year, the current-generation Lexus RC sports coupe turns 10 years old and needs a successor. That’s such a successor and can be a sports car built on the basis of the Toyota GR GT3.

Alfa Romeo has become profitable and is set to break

In an interview with Autocar, CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato said Alfa Romeo was already profitable, adding that the future looked bright. The company’s CEO estimates that annual deliveries could reach 90,000 vehicles in 2023, with a significant increase by the middle of the decade.

Imparato predicts Alfa Romeo will break its sales record in 2025, which sounds like an ambitious target given the brand’s record of 223,643 units. It was recorded back in 1990, when the lineup was much more diverse than it is today. In 2024, the family will expand with the release of a small crossover, positioned below the Tonale. The B-segment crossover, sister to the Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger, will be the first Alfa Romeo model to offer a purely electric powertrain.

Imparato noted that Alfa Romeo is not chasing volumes, but is prioritizing profit margins, which he hopes will reach at least 10%. He added that healthy cash flow will create new opportunities for additional vehicles. The CEO suggested that a revival of the Giulietta was possible in the long term. This compact hatchback was discontinued at the end of 2020.

The next-generation Giulia and Stelvio have already been confirmed to switch to an all-electric powertrain in the coming years, with larger US-focused models planned for the second half of the decade.
