The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to telecommuting, learning and entertainment have driven high demand for laptops. It started to grow in the second quarter of last year, so there was a deficit in the third and fourth quarters that has not yet been eliminated. According to analytical company TrendForce, high demand for laptops will lead to the fact that in the current quarter will be recorded a historical maximum of shipments – 65.3 million units. This is 3.5% more than in the fourth quarter, which is contrary to seasonal patterns. Growth in annual terms is 46.5%.
TrendForce estimates panel suppliers increased shipments by more than 20% quarter-on-quarter over the same period last year, but laptop demand grew faster. The result was a worsening of the shortage. Currently, orders for panels from laptop manufacturers exceed the capabilities of panel suppliers by about 30-50%. Lack of certain semiconductor components is hindering the expansion of panel production.
The predictable reaction of the free market has been soaring prices for laptop panels. Significantly, 11.6-inch panels, commonly used in Chromebooks, now cost about the same as 14 and 15.6-inch panels.
TrendForce predicts that increased demand for laptop panels is likely to continue throughout the second and third quarters. In part, it can be supported by the desire of some laptop manufacturers to secure excess stock for themselves due to fears of further shortages.
Gaming laptops will have a hard time after the release of the Redmi G 2021. In terms of performance and price, it will be better than the Lenovo Legion 5 and Asus TUF A15
Tomorrow Redmi will officially present a new generation gaming laptop – Redmi G 2021. The characteristics are already largely known thanks to official teasers, and now an interesting slide comparison of Redmi G 2021 with competitors – Lenovo Legion 5 and Asus TUF A15 has appeared on the Web.
This is what Redmi G 2021 looks like. The creators showed the entire laptop for the first time
As you can see, all three models are equipped with a Ryzen 7 5800H processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 dGPU, but in terms of the cooling system, the advantage is on the side of the Redmi device – it includes five heat pipes (competitors have three to four) and two 12 V fans each … Redmi and Lenovo surpass Asus in terms of color gamut of the screen matrix. But the most important thing here is the price. Redmi did not indicate it, but the symbols in the corresponding cell of the table are colored yellow – the color of the advantage. This means that the cost will be lower than that of competitors. The Lenovo device is priced at $ 1,295, the Asus at $ 1,220. The 2021 Redmi G is expected to cost around $ 1,090. But whether it will be so – we will find out tomorrow.
14 “laptop weighing less than 1 kg with a wide range of ports. Gigabyte U4 presented
A very light laptop has been added to the range of Gigabyte. With a 14-inch screen, the U4 weighs only 990 g. However, you have to pay for it.
But first, about the main characteristics. The novelty has received the top-end Intel Core i9-1195G7 processor in its line. RAM can be from 8 GB or more than these 8 GB soldered on the motherboard, and in addition there is one DDR4 slot. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is an IPS panel without the increased frame rate.
The storage subsystem can include two M.2 SSDs. Despite the size and weight, the range of ports is quite wide. There is USB 3.2 (x2), USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 support, HDMI 2.0, a headphone jack and a microSD slot. Also worth noting is Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and MIL-STD-810G compliance. Dimensions are equal to 322 x 217 x 17.2 mm.
As for the mass payment mentioned at the beginning, this is autonomy. Gigabyte itself says about 8 hours of operation, but the problem is that the battery here has a capacity of only 36 Wh, which is below average. But there is a quick charge: 30 minutes is enough to replenish the capacity by 45%.
No price data yet.
