Computer in “credit card” format. Qualcomm develops Qompute Card concept despite Intel’s failure

Qualcomm is reportedly developing a concept called the Qompute Card.

It involves placing all the basic elements of a PC on one small board. This will allow you to easily and quickly update the configuration of such a PC or use such cards by one user in different places on different PCs. Also, a similar solution can find application in household appliances.

The concept is not new at all. Back in 2017, a similar idea for the Intel Compute Card was presented, but the company abandoned it two years later, since it did not receive any distribution in the market.

Qualcomm as a whole makes a very similar decision, except that the heart of such cards will be SoCs based on the Arm architecture. The Qompute Card will also contain the motherboard, RAM and flash memory. That is, all the main elements of the finished device. At the same time, Qualcomm cards may well be significantly smaller than Intel Compute Card, if only because of the different power consumption of SoC Snapdragon and conventional Intel CPUs.

Qompute Card are aimed specifically at computers and laptops. At least the SoC Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3 presented the other day will also be offered as part of the cards. The source adds that Qualcomm is testing configurations for both Windows Arm and Chrome OS. How successful this version will turn out to be, time will tell. So far, all such modularity initiatives have not met with success.

GeForce RTX 4090 theoretical performance is nine times faster than PlayStation 5

Rumor has it that the new generation of Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 (Ada Lovelace) graphics cards will be released around September and will be much more powerful than the current generation models. The data provided by the insider allows us to compare the theoretical performance not only with current video cards, but also with game consoles.

With the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU clocked at 2.5GHz, the graphics card’s performance will reportedly be 90 TFLOPS. Of course, such a frequency for the top model seems simply prohibitive, because even the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GPU does not overclock above 1.9 GHz. However, with all the improvement in architecture and the transition to a thinner process technology, increasing frequencies is not only possible, it is inevitable. Then the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU can reach a frequency of 2.2-2.3 GHz, which is already close to 2.5 GHz.

Let’s assume that the GeForce RTX 4090 actually runs at 2.5 GHz, then the graphics card performance will be nine times faster than the PlayStation 5 (10.28 TFLOPS) and about 7.5 times faster than the Xbox Series X (12 .15 TFLOPS). For comparison, the performance of the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is 13.45 TFLOPS, and the GeForce RTX 3090 is 35.58 TFLOPS.

Today, sales of the GeForce RTX 3050 video card, the most affordable model of the Ampere line, which many users have high hopes for, will start. The Videocardz resource has already published the prices of a dozen GeForce RTX 3050 models for the US market, and it should be noted that five models will be offered at once in local retail at the manufacturer’s recommended price.

Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA, and Zotac will offer at least one $250 model each. According to the British resource Overclock3D, the first batch of GeForce RTX 3050 for the whole of the UK has … at least 1000 pieces. And this, of course, is very little. Therefore, the issue of volumes of the GeForce RTX 3050 in retail at the start of sales is not at all idle. Apparently, the first batches will be sold out in a matter of minutes. In the UK, the GeForce RTX 3050 starts at £240 or $320.

$100 overclocked 4-core Core i3-12100F beats 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X and even flagship 10-core Core i9-10900K in games

Entry and mid-range Intel Alder Lake processors have already set quite a few clock speed records thanks to the BCLK OC feature, which is implemented in motherboards based on the Z690 and B660 chipsets, and now it’s time to test such a CPU not in benchmarks, but in real applications – games. For this, the $100 quad-core Core i3-12100F got stuck, the frequency of which was raised from 4.3 to 5.2 GHz.

The result of the overclocked Core i3-12100F in 10 games is shown in the graphs below. It can be seen that in five of them, the Core i3-12100F outperforms the 10-core flagship of the 10th generation Core i9-10900K in performance. What’s more, in seven games, the overclocked Core i3-12100F is faster than AMD’s six-core hit Ryzen 5 5600X.

This comparison is another example of how Intel did a good job with Alder Lake. However, the successes would have been much more modest if the company had not provided overclocking for CPUs not marked with the K index.
