Compound Photonics and Globalfoundries Promise World’s First Monolithic Microdisplay for Augmented Reality Devices

Published

on

Compound Photonics (CP), a leader in augmented and mixed reality (AR / MR) microdisplay solutions, and Globalfoundries (GF), a leading contract manufacturer of specialized semiconductor products, have announced a strategic partnership.

The subject of the collaboration is the release of IntelliPix, the CP microdisplay technology platform. According to CP, the platform enables the consumer to access real-time holographic augmented reality, enabling smaller, lighter augmented reality glasses that last longer on a single charge. For the first time, the IntelliPix platform combines video feed with a fully integrated digital backplane and pixel driving up to 2.5 microns in a single-chip solution. This CP development is based on the best-in-class GF 22FDX semiconductor platform.

Partners begin developing a series of customized solutions on the GF 22FDX platform to bring customers flexible IntelliPix architecture that provides software-defined and scalable functionality. The IntelliPix platform is said to be faster and more power efficient than previous CP platforms. This combination of qualities is said to help unlock the real potential of LCoS panels, micro-LEDs and future holographic systems.

The platform can be optimized for each type of panel. In the case of micro-LED pixels, the IntelliPix-iDrive control circuitry ensures image uniformity by compensating for pixel-to-pixel performance differences with software-defined driver circuitry and MIPI interface. IntelliPix-vDrive configuration with voltage or charge control is optimized to drive LCD pixels for amplitude and phase / holographic light modulation. In doing so, the OneChip IntelliPix concept removes the traditional separation between the pixel control circuits and the display driver, resulting in reduced size and power consumption.

The IntelliPix microdisplay technology platform can be configured for resolutions up to 2048 x 2048 pixels or more. The first commercial products based on it are expected to appear in 2023.

For now, this option is available. Other security enhancements have also been introduced. By the way, Telegram has had this feature for a long time.

We will continue to create new ways to protect your communications and keep them private and secure as private conversations.“Zuckerberg said.

New features include:

  • leaving group chats without notification for all participants;
  • ban on taking screenshots in certain chats;
