It is unlikely that it will be possible to fully satisfy the need for microcircuits again until 2024. This assessment was expressed in an interview with the German daily newspaper Boersen-Zeitung, the financial director of Volkswagen Arno Antlitz (Arno Antlitz).

The deficit is likely to start to ease towards the end of this year, with production back to 2019 levels next year, he said. However, this will not be enough to meet the demand for chips that has grown during this time.

“The structural supply gap is likely to resolve only in 2024,” Antlitz said.

Asked how funds from a possible Porsche AG IPO scheduled for the end of the year could be used to support Volkswagen, the company’s chief financial officer said the money could help fund the automaker’s software division and battery plans.

“Only those who can map out their battery supply chain have an advantage in ramping up electric vehicle production. Ensuring the security of the supply chain is related to this. The Porsche IPO could give us a lot more flexibility in financing this,” Antlitz said.

And only in 2028, software support for the Galaxy S23 will be terminated.

Samsung’s longevity of software support is unmatched by any other Android smartphone manufacturer. Even Google only guarantees three big Android updates for its current flagships Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
