Chinese manufacturers intend to dominate the OLED market

The source claims that Chinese companies are looking to catch up and overtake South Korean companies in the OLED market. Last year, with the support of the state, they increased output so much that for the first time they were able to occupy 10% of the market. The same is happening in the industry as it was in the LCD panel market three years ago.

The Korea Display Manufacturers Association announced on March 14 that China had a 13.2% share of the global AMOLED smartphone market last year. In 2016, it was 1.1%, but in 2019 it jumped to 9.8%.

BOE increased its market share from 0.1% to 8.8% between 2017 and 2020. In addition, last year its OLED panels passed Apple quality tests, and in the second half of the year, the company began shipping 6.1-inch panels for use in the iPhone 12 smartphones.

Other Chinese manufacturers, including CSOT, Tianma and EDO, are also rapidly increasing their investment in expansion. More than 20 OLED production lines are currently under construction or planned for construction in China.

In the LCD market, three years ago, Chinese companies, including BOE and CSOT, rapidly expanded their manufacturing capacity for 10.5G substrates. They manufactured LCD panels and sold them at prices about 30% lower than South Korean companies. Under these conditions, the average price of 55-inch 4K LCD panels fell from $ 192 in August 2017 to $ 100 in December 2019.

The source makes a reservation that OLED still maintains a technological gap between South Korean and Chinese suppliers. However, the latter are increasing their presence in the market by offering much cheaper products.

The week began for the main cryptocurrencies of the world with a rise in price and the establishment of new price highs, and ends with a fall, and quite noticeable. Over the course of a day, Bitcoin loses about 4.5% of its value, and as a result, for 1 BTC now they give not $ 66,000, but about $ 60,500.

After Bitcoin began to fall, Ethereum was still holding, but its rate had already gone down too, dropping below the psychological mark of $ 4,000. Analysts believe that such a fall in cryptocurrencies is due to their sell-off on the part of investors – they are fixing profits against the backdrop of a strong growth in value that has been observed since the end of September. This means that after the current correction, Bitcoin may rush to new heights, but whether altcoins will follow it is a big question.

Interestingly, against the background of a decrease in quotations of other cryptocurrencies from the Top 10, Solana feels very confident: it grew by almost 6% per day, and by almost 25% in a week.
