Chinese court invalidates 2019 Audi car sale using cryptocurrency
A Shanghai court in China has invalidated a deal to buy a car with cryptocurrency that took place in 2019. Mr. Huang signed a sales contract for an Audi AL6 for 409,800 yuan (US$59,477 at the time) in exchange for 1,281 Unilash tokens (UNIH) with an unnamed car dealership in Shanghai, but did not receive the car within the contract period. .
As a result, Mr. Huang sued the seller for delivery of the vehicle and payment of 0.66% daily interest on the transaction amount in damages for each day the vehicle was not delivered after the original deadline.
The case dragged on for over three years before a verdict was handed down in June 2022. Referring to the September 2017 rulings, which later transformed into a ban on cryptocurrencies in China, the court stated that digital assets “cannot and should not be used as a currency of circulation in the markets.” As a result, the contract of sale was declared invalid. The buyer was not provided with any damage, delivery of the vehicle, or return of the vehicle 1281 UNIH.
Now the Unilash project is in an abandoned state, the crypto asset is not listed on any exchange. UNIH, developed in 2018, was supposed to be a digital payment token for e-commerce. The digital currency was only available to private investors without an initial public offering of coins. Shortly after its launch, reports quickly surfaced on Chinese social media that the project was a scam.

“A car that everyone can afford.” Chery Arrizo 5 WS for 9.5 thousand dollars has already appeared at dealers in China

Dealers in China began receiving the Chery Arrizo 5 WS sedan. The Chinese resource Autohome calls it “a car that everyone can afford.” And the point here, of course, is the price: you can buy a car for 69,900 yuan – that’s about 9.5 thousand dollars. Interestingly, there is no talk of any manual gearbox – the engine works in conjunction with a variator.
Under the hood of the Chery Arrizo 5 WS is a simple 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with a power of 1109 hp. It is clear that the dynamics are sluggish, but the consumption is relatively low – 6.6 l/100 km based on measurements using the WLTC method.
The car received a regular dashboard with traditional speedometer and tachometer scales and a small on-board computer screen between them. But at the same time, the climate control is touch-sensitive, there is a media system with a fairly large screen, cruise control, a tire pressure monitoring system, an electromechanical handbrake, and the interior is leather.
