China cut off oxygen: ASML ordered American employees to stop serving Chinese customers

Dutch company ASML, the world’s leading semiconductor equipment manufacturer, has ordered US employees to stop serving Chinese customers amid the latest US export restrictions.

A Dutch firm memo states that any U.S. personnel, including U.S. citizens, green card holders, and foreign nationals residing in the U.S., are “prohibited from providing certain services to frontline factories in China.”

ASML employees in the US “should refrain – directly or indirectly – from servicing, shipping, or providing support to any customers in China until further notice, while ASML is actively evaluating which specific chip factories are affected by this restriction.”

The authenticity of the ASML memo, which was circulating on social media, was confirmed by a company representative. ASML is one of the most important players in the semiconductor supply chain as it manufactures the equipment needed to produce the most advanced chips in the world. Headquartered in the Netherlands, the firm is the only company in the world that manufactures extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment used by companies such as TSMC.

Last week, the US government passed sweeping regulations aimed at cutting off China from key chips and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Under these rules, Americans who support the development or production of certain chips in China, including for military use, require a license to do so.

This rule seems pretty broad, and companies are struggling to figure out what it means in practice. “We are hard at work evaluating the new rules and their impact on ASML,” the company said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the US has also granted exemptions from the new restrictions to some of the largest chipmakers in the world. TSMC has received a one-year license to continue purchasing US chip manufacturing equipment and shipping it to its manufacturing facility in China. South Korean chip makers Samsung and SK Hynix also received a similar one-year break.

Coinbase Calls For Converting USDT To Safe USDC

The crypto exchange has initiated a zero-fee exchange between USDT and USDC. The company in its message urged customers to “move to a reliable and reputable digital dollar: USDC”

Coinbase Calls For Converting USDT To

“The events of the last few weeks have put some of the stablecoins to the test and we have seen a search for a safer place. We believe USD Coin (USDC) is a trusted and respected stablecoin,” Coinbase wrote in a blog post on Friday morning.

The crypto exchange announced that USDC is a unique cryptocurrency as it is 100% backed by cash and short-term US Treasury bills held in government regulated financial institutions. The company is convinced that the stablecoin can always be exchanged for dollars at a ratio of 1:1

Blockchain data shows that USDT is the third most widely traded digital asset on Coinbase, representing 5% of the volume on the exchange, where it currently trades at 99 cents.

On December 1, the Wall Street Journal published a report arguing that the company behind Tether “may not have enough liquid assets to pay down debt in a crisis.” This estimate was based on an apparent increase in loans rather than outright sales.

Tether responded with a scathing blog post titled: “WSJ & CO: The Hypocrisy of Mainstream Media Falling Asleep at the Wheel of Information.”

“Critics and the media have spent years criticizing, investigating and warning about Tether’s supposed ‘ever impending’ collapse, but they have completely fallen asleep at the wheel as an extremely large part of the crypto industry has collapsed due to irresponsible leverage, outright fraud. and regulatory arbitrage.

According to Circle and Tether themselves, USDC currently has a turnover of 43.8 billion, while USDT has a turnover of 65.7 billion.

666 W and two potentially dangerous 12VHPWR connectors at once

Galax has fully introduced the GeForce RTX 4090 HOF graphics cards.

There are two models: OC Lab and OC Lab Plus. But in any case, we are talking about the most powerful RTX 4090 on the market and, as a result, the most productive graphics card in general. True, with a caveat.

The fact is that the novelty has two modes of operation. The standard GPU frequency is 2520 MHz for both versions. In Performance mode, the core frequency of OC Lab rises to 2595 MHz, while for OC Lab Plus it already reaches 2625 MHz. And that’s lower than the Asus ROG Strix OC or MSI Suprim Liquid at 2640 MHz. But here the power limit in this mode rises to a symbolic 666 watts. At what frequencies the GPU will work in this mode in real conditions, it is not clear, so we need to wait for the tests. But from the point of view of the power limit, there is no equal to the novelty. By the way, 666 W is more than the allowable 600 W for the new 12VHPWR connector. But everything is explained simply: the new Galax products have two such connectors. True, this means that the risk of incorrectly connecting the power is doubled.

As for the rest, we can note the complete display and a length of 344 mm.

The new game from the creator of the BioShock series

The new game from the creator of the BioShock series is very similar to BioShock. And a little on Atomic Heart

The plot unfolds on board a spaceship, which is gradually being destroyed. The hero is a character named Judas, who needs to find a way to escape, and for this he will have to unite with his worst enemies.

The game promises a non-linear and variable plot with several endings, different options for passing, and so on. It is noteworthy that the game looks and feels very similar to BioShock. It has the aesthetics of retrofuturism, superpowers and elements of phantasmagoria. For example, the hero can install implants in his hand to use fire or electric attacks. It also reminds a lot of Atomic Heart, which was also shown at TGA.

At the moment, it is not reported when the game will appear. But there is already a list of platforms – PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, that is, only on modern solutions.
