Aya Neo Next handheld game console will be built on the next generation AMD processor

The handheld game console market is generating a lot of interest. Mainly because they can finally offer good graphics performance with solutions like AMD Vega or Intel Xe.

Earlier this year, Aya introduced the Ryzen 5 4500U Neo consoles and the Neo 2021 Pro AMD Ryzen 7 4800H based consoles. Although the second console had more CPU cores, the GPU performance remained more or less the same as both uses a GPU based on AMD’s Vega microarchitecture, which will soon be replaced by RDNA2.

In January, AMD is set to release the Ryzen 6000 series processors, codenamed Rembrandt, which will include not only updated Zen3 + cores manufactured at 6nm, but also RDNA2 graphics. While Aye has not confirmed whether the new console will be based on the Ryzen 5000 Cezanne or Rembrandt series, it will be a very important update anyway, as the Neo console is under intense pressure from competitors such as the Steam Deck and One X powered by Intel Tiger Lake processors.

The new console will be unveiled on December 28, which is ahead of AMD’s January 4 press conference, which will unveil the Ryzen 6000 series.

So far, we can say something about the board itself only by looking at the image. You can see two PCIe slots, four DDR slots, a processor socket, and what appears to be a passively cooled chipset. This gives hope that it will not heat up too much.
