At MIDC 2020, Xiaomi announced plans to hire 5,000 engineers by 2021

The annual Mi Developers Conference (MIDC 2020), hosted by tech giant Xiaomi, opened yesterday. At the conference, the company unveiled a number of groundbreaking technologies, including retractable telescopic camera technology, as well as several improvements to the IoT software and even the XiaoAI virtual assistant, which received the new version 5.0.

The Technology for Life event also included a keynote speech from Xiaomi Chairman / CEO Lei Jun. The CEO hinted that the brand’s exceptional performance in terms of technological advancements, especially in the camera area, is underpinned by continued investment in R&D and talent recruitment. He also said that the brand will continue to invest in human resources as it plans to hire over 5,000 engineers in 2021.

“We are confident that people are at the heart of any innovation. When strengthening our technological expertise, we must always start by finding the best people. Xiaomi currently has over 10,000 talented employees on its engineering team and plans to recruit 5,000 more in 2021 despite the global pandemic, ”said Lei Jun.

He further added:

“I want to make Xiaomi the dream company of every engineer for the next decade, and we will strengthen our talent and team development strategy.”

Xiaomi is a relatively young company considering it has only been around for 10 years. The company’s growth within this short span of time is mainly due to its huge investment in research and development, including human resources. This year alone, Xiaomi has donated over RMB 10 billion to its R&D fund and is currently ranked among the top 20 Chinese companies in terms of R&D investment.
