Are smart bracelets no longer interesting? Users are actively switching to smart watches

Users around the world are increasingly choosing smartwatches over smartbands.

Canalys analysts published a report according to which, in the first quarter, 41.7 million watches, bracelets and all other devices in this segment were sold worldwide, which is 4% less than a year earlier.

At the same time, if we talk only about smartwatches, their sales grew by 15%, to 32 million units. That is, they accounted for 76.6% of deliveries in this market. Thus, sales of regular fitness bracelets fell by 37%, and this is the sixth quarter in a row when this segment shows a decrease in sales.

Analysts attribute this state of affairs to the active distribution of watches. Moreover, they divide this direction into full-fledged smart watches with a full-fledged operating system and basic smart watches on software platforms. It is the latter that are responsible for the growth of this segment. In general, such devices are no different from the same fitness bracelets, except for the shape, but users clearly prefer the shape of the watch.

Moving on to manufacturers, if we talk about smartwatches in all their forms, Apple is in the lead, of course. The company sold 9.2 million watches, increasing sales by 21% and occupying 28.9% of the market.

Second place for Huawei with a share of 10.6%, but the company’s sales fell by 18%. Thanks to this, Samsung got as close as possible, occupying 10.5% of the market, and it succeeded due to the growth in sales by an incredible 53%. That is, the current generation of smartwatches of the Korean giant clearly liked the users. Xiaomi and Garmin close the top five with 5.4% and 5% of the market, respectively.

If we talk about all the devices on the market, then Apple will still remain the leader, Huawei will still be in second place, but then the situation is different.

As you can see from the tables, Xiaomi is in third place, but there is a 41% drop. Considering that the company showed a growth of 2% in the smartwatch segment, the point is clearly in the falling sales of Mi Band bracelets. Further in the top five are Samsung and Fitbit.

The Swiss manufacturer of luxury wristwatches MB&F presented a new model with the long name Horological Machine Nº11 Architect and an extremely unusual design.

As the manufacturer himself says, the design was inspired by the human-oriented architecture of the 1960s.

The centerpiece of the HM11 Architect case is a flying tourbillon, enclosed under a double-domed sapphire roof, reminiscent of the lanterns of ancient temples. This central tourbillon is surrounded by four symmetrical elements, each with a specific function: time display, power reserve, thermometer and crown for setting the time. This is an allusion to the four rooms in the house. These functions are accessed through a rotating design, highlighting the interactive nature of the watch and its energy efficiency.

The watch consists of 364 components, of which 92 are in the case. What’s interesting is that the mechanism underlying the watch cannot be assembled separately and then placed in a case—it simply won’t fit there. Therefore, the mechanism is assembled inside a partially open case. There are two versions of the watch: sapphire and titanium. One with blue PVD coating, the other with red gold PVD coating. There will be 25 pieces each, and it will take 18 months to make all 50 pieces. The watch costs $230,000.

The rest includes a power reserve of 96 hours, water protection (2 ATM), a titanium case, a diameter of 42 mm, a balance frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, and 29 jewels in the movement.
