Apple will push Intel and AMD in the laptop processor market. TrendForce analysts assess the prospects for 2021
TrendForce analysts have published their forecast for the laptop market for the current year. The source’s experts believe that by the end of the year, 217 million mobile PCs will be delivered to the market. This will correspond to an increase of 8.1%, compared with 22.5% growth in laptop sales in 2020, taking the market to over 200 million units for the first time.
Chromebooks will continue to be one of the fastest growing segments. By the end of this year, they will occupy 18.5% of the entire market, while now they occupy 14.8%.
Sources also talk about Apple’s prospects. The company is already one of the leaders in the laptop and PC market, and the transition to its own processors could make the company even stronger. In particular, at the end of 2020, Apple’s share of the mobile processor market was 0.8%. This is very small, but it is worth remembering that the corresponding laptops have only recently entered the market, and there are only two such models. Analysts expect that the expansion of the assortment will lead to the fact that by the summer Apple’s share may rise to 7%. At the same time, the share of AMD is also growing, which, in turn, increases the pressure on Intel.
