Apple Watch wastes time and resources for police and rescue services

Published

The Apple Watch is often praised for saving lives, not only detecting abnormal heart rates or accidental drops, but also calling emergency services. The latter feature allows you to dial 911 when people need help. This feature must be turned on in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone before you can use it on your Apple Watch.

However, this feature has also been criticized. Some users accidentally dial 911, mostly while sleeping or during exercise. To make an emergency call, just press and hold the side button of the watch. At the same time, the watch continues to dial the emergency number, after which the police will go to the specified address in order to eventually find out that this is a false alarm. Ultimately, a situation may arise that the police will not come again to this address, when a person may really need help.

Overland Park Police Captain Jim Sartre said: “When people are sleeping or moving, they accidentally put Apple Watch into emergency mode. In this case, the watch dials the emergency number. ” The dispatcher calls back the owners of the watch, sometimes they answer that the watch has accidentally made a call.

Random calls like this take up the time and resources of the police and rescue services, which could be used in real-life emergencies. One way to prevent accidental emergency calls is to disable this feature. However, the emergency function can be very useful and should remain active for some users.

Apple said it was unaware of the issue and added that the emergency call feature could be useful in life-threatening situations.

SoC in Apple Watch Series 8 is equivalent to SoC

Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman spoke about the new Apple Watch that Apple will release later this year, including the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE 2.

There have been reports earlier that Apple will add a faster Apple S8 SoC to the Apple Watch Series 8, but Gurman claims that “the Apple S8 will have the same specs as the Apple S7.” At the same time, the Apple S7 in terms of characteristics is almost a copy of the Apple S6 in the Apple Watch Series 6 of the 2020 model.

Mark Gurman added that next year’s Apple Watch Series 9 will feature a “completely new processor.” As for the Apple Watch SE 2, it will have the same screen as the Apple Watch SE, as well as the Apple S8 SoC, which will be faster than the Apple S5 SoC found in the Apple Watch SE.

watchOS 9 is ending support for the Apple Watch Series 3, so I’d eventually expect that model to be discontinued in the fall. The Apple Watch SE will remain a mid-range option.

He previously said that the Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to feature at least one new body temperature sensor.
