Apple M1X and up to 64GB of RAM: new MacBook Pros coming this month

Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman says Apple is gearing up to launch Apple’s new M1X SoC at its October event.

In 2020, Apple made the long-awaited transition to the ARM-based non-crystal Apple M1 system. In addition to the 10-core processor, Apple’s M1X SoC will offer a choice between 16- and 32-core GPUs.

The wait for the MacBook Pro is probably almost over: the new MacBook Pro didn’t show up at Apple’s product launch in September, but it still has to be released in the coming weeks. Apple usually unveils its major new Macs in October. So stay tuned.

The Apple M1X will debut in the new MacBook Pro lineup and will appear in the Mac mini at some point. The M1X platform has been designed in two flavors: with 10 CPU cores (eight high-performance and two high-efficiency) and with 16 or 32 graphics cores. The SoC will receive improved neural processing capabilities and support for up to 64GB of RAM.

Microsoft is preparing a simplified Windows 11 SE for cheap laptops

Microsoft is now preparing to release its signature low-cost Microsoft Surface laptop to compete with ChromeOS-based Chromebooks. And especially for such laptops, a simplified version of the operating system is being created – Windows 11 SE.

This was told by the columnist Zac Bowden from Windows Central, who often gives interesting, later confirmed information about Windows and other Microsoft products.

Bowden notes that the new Microsoft Surface is aimed at high school students and is aimed at the lower price segment. Codenamed Surface Laptop SE is equipped with an Intel Celeron N4120 processor, 8GB of RAM and an 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. For ports, one USB Type-A, one USB Type-C, 3.5 mm headphone jack are provided.

Windows 11 SE is seen as Microsoft’s possible answer to Chrome OS. Since Windows 11 raises the bar on system requirements for most PCs significantly, a dedicated edition can provide reliable performance on entry-level laptops.

According to Bowden’s sources, the device has largely been finalized and Microsoft plans to announce it before the end of the year.

Apple’s M1 Max SoC beats the $ 6,000 Radeon Pro W6900X. MacBook Pro Result Appeared in Affinity Photo

Yesterday we saw what the graphics core of the Apple M1 Max SoC is capable of in one game and a couple of benchmarks. But this is not why they usually buy a MacBook Pro, especially in top-end configurations.

What can such a solution offer to professionals? The developer of the editor Affinity Photo shared the results of testing the new MacBook Pro with SoC M1 Max in full configuration, that is, with 32 GPU cores.

It turned out that in this case the possibilities of Apple’s solution are not just high – they are record-breaking. In the test, the M1 Max scored 32,891 points. In comparison, the top-end Radeon Pro W6900X available for the Mac Pro scores 32,580 points! That is, the GPU in a single-chip system performs at the level (and even slightly outstrips) the dedicated flagship video card with 32 GB of memory and a very high TDP. And such a Radeon card for Mac Pro in the Apple Configurator costs $ 5,600, and if you later buy it separately, then even $ 6,000. By the way, the performance of the Radeon Pro W6900X reaches 22.2 TFLOPS, that is, it is twice as high as that of the M1 Max.
