According to the latest report from investment bank Nomura Securities, Apple is “abnormally increasing” production orders for the standard iPhone 14 model and is also preparing for a price war.
Analysts note that the company has increased order volumes to use the existing components and production capacity freed up after cutting production of the iPhone 14 Plus.
Nomura Securities is also confident that Apple is preparing for an unprecedented price cut later this quarter or early next quarter to stimulate low demand for the model and get rid of accumulated inventory.
Nomura expects total iPhone production to decline for three straight quarters after a 13% year-over-year growth in the third quarter of this year.
According to various research institutes, the mobile phone market has been in a downturn this year, and even Apple, which has always managed to get away with it, suffered this time. Previous reports that Apple has reduced order volume for iPhone 14 Pro models are confirmed.
The latest research report released by American investment bank Jefferies Group says that weekly iPhone sales in China are rapidly declining. Apple’s market share in China has fallen 4-5 percentage points over the past month.
First high-quality renders of the iPhone 15 Pro show a possible new smartphone design
Following rumors and insider information that the iPhone 15 Pro will get a new case design, the Chinese edition of Mydrivers has published realistic renderings that show what the upcoming flagship could look like.
Earlier, an insider ShrimpApplePro, who leaked live photos of the iPhone 14 long before the announcement, said that the next Apple smartphone will receive an updated case and a back cover in the style of the iPhone 5c. According to him, the iPhone 15 will offer buyers a titanium case. In addition, instead of flat square edges, the smartphone will receive a rounded back panel.
Apple has been using flat surfaces and sharp edges for three years in a row, starting with the iPhone 12. Many manufacturers of Android smartphones have followed suit, but there are people who complain about this shape and claim that it is uncomfortable to hold the smartphone for a long time.
In addition, according to multiple sources, the iPhone 15 will also say goodbye to the Lightning interface and move to USB-C, although some believe that Lightning may remain on lower models. Even if all models get USB-C, only older models will have a fast connector.
The smartphone is also credited with a completely new image sensor and improved photo and video capabilities.
Apple in trouble? iPhone 14 production could fall by 16 million this year
According to analysts at the largest Swiss bank UBS, this year the production of the iPhone 14 may be reduced by an impressive 16 million units. This is facilitated by covid restrictions in China, as well as low demand for entry-level models – the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.
Initially, analysts believed that the total production of the iPhone 14 this year will be 92 million units, but now it has been reduced to 76 million, which is 20% less than the iPhone 13 was produced last year.
“It is important to monitor how the increase in iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max waiting time affects demand,” UBS analysts wrote. “The speed at which Apple and Hon Hai [Foxconn] can solve problems in Zhengzhou, is the key to sales in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023‘, they added.
The iPhone Pro production problems could put further pressure on Apple’s business, analysts say, as the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max offset low demand for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Ironically, Zhengzhou, where the Foxconn plant that makes the vast majority of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, has been hit hardest by the COVID-19 restrictions. Obviously, such a significant decline in the production of the most popular Apple phones can negatively affect the company’s financial report for the fourth quarter of this year and for the entire year as a whole.
