Apple is preparing a big change for the iPhone. Sub-screen fingerprint reader soon and flexible foldable display in the distant future

Apple is preparing long-awaited innovations in its iPhone lineup. This was told by the editor of the authoritative resource Bloomberg Mark Gurman (Mark Gurman).

Apple has begun work on a foldable iPhone model, according to the source. At the moment, prototypes are being developed for internal testing. So far, we are talking only about tests of the screens themselves, and there are no full-fledged working prototypes yet. It is also noted that Apple has not decided anything definitively regarding the release of such a smartphone.

Apple is considering a number of foldable screen sizes, including one that measures the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max when unfolded. The gourmet believes that before the release of the folding iPhone we are separated by “years”, and Apple may also decide not to release such a device at all.

As for the new product for 2021, Gourmet confirmed that Apple can name the line of smartphones not the iPhone 13, but the iPhone 12S. And although the design changes are expected to be small, nevertheless, Apple may decide to take a step that has been expected from it for a long time – to implement the Touch ID hidden under the screen.

According to Gourmet, Apple is testing the in-screen fingerprint scanner with might and main. However, the company will not give up Face ID, the solutions will complement each other.

Mark Gurman has a solid track record of leaking Apple products over the years. Last year, he unveiled the iPhone 12 lineup, for example, long before the announcement, and in 2019 the iPhone 11.

Possibly hundreds of millions of smartphones are at risk A

Google, as part of its Project Zero project, has published information about a new vulnerability CVE-2022-33917 that affects millions of smartphones.

Possibly hundreds of millions of smartphones are at risk. A vulnerability has been discovered that manufacturers are in no hurry to fix

The fact is that we are talking about a vulnerability in Mali GPUs, which are used in a huge number of single-chip systems. Google does not specify, but the Arm website has information that the vulnerability affects solutions based on the Valhall architecture. And this means that we are talking about a huge number of graphics cores that have been and are being used in SoCs in recent years, including the latest Mali-Gx10. That is, we are not talking about millions of vulnerable smartphones, but rather hundreds of millions of devices based on SoC MediaTek, Exynos and Tensor.

Arm itself patched the vulnerability some time ago, but the problem is that many vendors still haven’t implemented those patches. This applies to many devices from Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and even Google itself.

If exploited, the vulnerability is intended to allow an attacker to read and write physical pages after they are returned to the system, potentially gaining wide access to user data.

There are still few technical details about the new product. It is reported about the screen with a diagonal of 6.5 inches and dimensions of 161.3 x 77.7 x 8.2 mm. Also earlier, the SoC Exynos 1380, which is expected to become the basis for the Galaxy A34 and A54, was lit up on the Web. In terms of CPU performance, it is at the level of Snapdragon 695.

Elon Musk promised to release an alternative smartphone on one

Billionaire Elon Musk has promised to release his own smartphone model if Apple and Google remove the Twitter app from their respective App Store and Google Play stores, respectively.

Elizabeth Wheeler, an American political commentator, author and podcast host, asked Elon Musk this question:

“If Apple and Google remove Twitter from their app stores, Elon Musk should release his own smartphone. Half the country would happily give up biased, spying iPhones and Androids. For a person who builds rockets for Mars, building a smartphone would be easy, right?”

Of course, I hope that it will not come to this, but, yes, if there is no other way out, I will make an alternative phone.
