Apple iPad is unmatched in the global tablet market yet, but production has plummeted

Published

on

Research firm IDC released a report on global tablet shipments for the third quarter, according to which tablet shipments reached 42.3 million units, down 9.4% from a year earlier. Nonetheless, Apple’s iPad shipments continue to grow in a shrinking market.

Apple iPad shipments in the third quarter were 14.7 million units, up from 14 million units a year earlier. This is a 4.6% increase over the same period last year, bringing Apple’s share of the tablet market to 34.6%.

Apple has a strong lead in the tablet market. The second place is occupied by Samsung with a market share of 17.7%, Amazon is in third place with a market share of 11.1%. Samsung and Amazon tablet shipments fell 11.1% and 13.3% year over year, respectively.

Many educational institutions and governments have spent their budgets purchasing distance learning devices, and even consumers have aggressively bought learning devices in 2020. As a result, some saturation of the educational market is expected in the near future. This is especially noticeable in developed markets such as the USA and Western Europe.

Apple expects Q4 iPad shipments to remain flat due to ongoing supply chain restrictions. What’s more, sources have confirmed that iPad production has dropped 50% over the past two months from the original plan.

The company announced the gifts it has prepared for Black Friday and Cyber Monday this year. As in previous years, Apple will be giving away gift cards for iPhone, AirPods, Mac and iPad models.

According to 9to5mac, the biggest problem with Apple’s Black Friday offerings is that they are very selective about which products they are available for, and the amounts are not very large. For example, a $ 50 gift card for the Apple Watch SE isn’t as compelling when the $ 60 off that watch is in the Amazon store.

Apple does not offer any bonuses for the iPhone 13 smartphones. Instead, customers who purchase a new iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, or iPhone SE can receive a $ 50 gift card. A $ 50 gift card is also available with the purchase of Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 3, or Apple TV.

The $ 100 Apple Gift Card is available with the purchase of an iPad Pro, MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, or Mac mini. The 27-inch iMac comes with a $ 200 gift card. AirPods (2nd and 3rd generation), AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max are eligible for gift cards up to $ 75.
