The Apple Digital Car Key feature was introduced in 2020. It allows users to unlock and start cars by holding an iPhone or Apple Watch to the driver’s side door. Car keys are stored in the Wallet app, like a credit card. This feature is currently not widely used and is limited to certain BMW, Kia and Genesis vehicles.

A new app called Car Keys Tests allows licensed MFi (Made For iPhone/iPod/iPad) developers to test and validate digital car keys. Apple explained:

For use by MFi licensees only. Use the Car Keys Tests app to test and verify connectivity, performance, and other key requirements for the certification process for vehicles you design that use Apple Digital Car Key technology.

The first three models that the company is preparing will be a hatchback, station wagon and crossover. They will enter the market in 2025. As previously reported, the cars are built on the Geely SEA platform. It is already known that all cars will be able to accelerate to 100 km / h in about 7 seconds and will have a range of about 440 km. Whether there will be any other configurations is unknown.
