Apple has become the most environmentally friendly smartphone manufacturer. Samsung is only in fourth place, behind even Sony
The GreenSmartphones study showed which smartphone manufacturers are the most environmentally friendly.
The source experts evaluated the companies according to a number of criteria:
- Increase/decrease in direct greenhouse gas emissions over the past year
- Carbon neutrality
- Environmental goals
- Reducing the amount of plastic in packaging
- Use of renewable energy
- Share of recycled waste
- Percentage of recycled materials
- Number of recycled devices
In the end, it turned out that Apple became the leader, followed by Google and, unexpectedly, Sony. In this case, only companies producing at least 1 million smartphones per year were taken into account.
Next in the ranking are Samsung, Vivo, Huawei, Oppo, Alcatel, Motorola, Xiaomi and OnePlus. It is not known what other companies were evaluated, but in the tables available on the Web, there are only these 11. It can be separately noted that only Apple, Vivo, Oppo, Alcatel and Motorola have reduced greenhouse gas emissions over the past year, while OnePlus has an indicator increased by more than 160%.

Samsung smartphones from the Galaxy S24 line and devices from the iPhone 16 line will likely retain the same RAM options that current models currently have.
Analysts at Mizuho Securities, cited by insider Revegnus, say that the growing demand for AI should, in theory, contribute to the growth of RAM in smartphones. We previously reported that thanks to the emphasis on AI, manufacturers may begin to actively equip their smartphones with 16-24 GB of RAM.
However, a significant increase in memory prices, as well as the still missing scenarios for local AI that will run directly on smartphones, will lead to the fact that next year manufacturers will not actively increase the amount of memory. In particular, Samsung and Apple can leave everything as it is now.
This means that the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will each receive 6 GB of RAM, and the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will each receive 8 GB. Samsung’s new generation flagships will have 8 or 12 GB of RAM.
It is likely that other manufacturers will not rush to increase volumes, and this, in turn, may slow down the development of local AI on smartphones.
Today Samsung officially unveiled the budget smartphone Galaxy A15. The new product is offered in two versions: with LTE and 5G. Accordingly, the first is built on the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC, and the second is based on the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ SoC. In terms of everything else, these versions have no differences.
The Galaxy A15 4G has two memory configurations: with 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of flash memory. The Galaxy A15 5G has one memory configuration: 8/1256 GB.
Samsung Galaxy A15 received a Super AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 6.5 inches, a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, a frame rate of 90 Hz and a peak brightness of 800 cd/sq.m. The battery capacity is 5000 mAh and supports 25 W charging.
The camera is represented by sensors with a resolution of 50, 5 and 2 megapixels. The front camera is 13 megapixel. Dimensions and weight of the smartphone are 160.1 x 76.8 x 8.4 mm and 200 grams.
Galaxy A15 launched in Vietnam. The price of the LTE version is from $200, the 5G version is $260.
