Apple goes to court again: Apple Watch owners can’t use better heart rate monitoring algorithms

According to the latest reports, Apple is facing another lawsuit over the heart rate monitoring feature of the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch has an optical heart rate sensor that supports heart rate tracking. This feature also provides users with early warning of potential health problems. The latest generation 6th generation Apple Watch also supports blood oxygen detection.

US company AliveCor reportedly recently filed a lawsuit against Apple alleging that its heart rate monitoring feature is not available to third-party apps. The company claims that as a result, users cannot use the best algorithms for monitoring.

AliveCor said the move by Apple is preventing watch owners from using more accurate third-party apps. This company released the KardiaBand, which can not only track your heart rate, but also take an electrocardiogram. Earlier this year, AliveCor contacted the US International Trade Commission alleging that Apple’s heart rate monitoring algorithm was infringing on the company’s patents.

Many smaller companies use litigation like this to get money from larger companies. How this trial will end, the court will decide.
