Android 12 vulnerability allows Samsung Galaxy S22, Google Pixel 6 and other smartphones to be hacked
A few days ago, a developer named Max Kellermann discovered a serious vulnerability in the Linux 5.8 kernel. You will find details about the vulnerability called Dirty Pipe in our previous note, and in this one we are talking about the fact that it affects all devices with an operating system based on the Linux kernel, such as Android smartphones / tablets, Google Home speakers, Chromecast and chromebooks.
“The Dirty Pipe vulnerability is extremely serious because it allows an attacker to overwrite – temporarily or permanently – files on the system that he should not be able to change,” Christoph Hebeisen, a security expert at Lookout, wrote in his report. “Attackers can use this to change the behavior of privileged processes, effectively gaining the ability to execute arbitrary code with extensive system privileges.”
According to his findings, Android 12 smartphones, including the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21 FE, Google Pixel 6/Pixel 6 Pro, Oppo Find X5 and Realme 9 Pro+, are vulnerable. He was able to use the vulnerability to execute code and bypass security measures on the Pixel 6 smartphone.
He clarifies that the vulnerability only affects smartphones running Android 12 based on the Linux kernel version older than 5.8. At the moment, there are no signs that hackers actively exploited the vulnerability. Google is already preparing a patch to protect users.
Google is sabotaging itself. Almost 60% of Pixel smartphone users are ready to abandon them in favor of devices from other brands
Market research company Statista conducted a survey of smartphone users and found an interesting trend. It turns out that almost 60% of Pixel users are ready to switch to a smartphone of another brand, and only about 26% said they are ready to remain loyal to the Pixel brand. For comparison, the graph below shows the opinions of Apple and Samsung smartphone users – and they are much more loyal to the iPhone and Galaxy brands, respectively.
The Phonearena resource believes that everything is due to the “buggy” of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 smartphones. Indeed, the Android developer company is not able to ensure the smooth operation of its devices out of the box. What’s more, many Pixel bugs go unresolved for many months. For example, the Pixel 7 Pro has had screen issues for eight months since the device was launched. Not to mention a lot of software problems.
Because of all this, Google is losing audience loyalty and, in fact, sabotaging itself.
Still folk 200 megapixels. Smartphone Realme 11 Pro + outside of China will rise in price minimally
Realme unveiled the latest Realme 11 Pro line of smartphones on May 10 in its home market in China, and the global premiere is now in preparation. Insider Sudhanshu Ambhore has become aware of the prices for global versions of smartphones, and they do not look overpriced, as is often the case when the Chinese model goes beyond the borders of the country.
For example, the base Realme 11 Pro+ with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will cost $330, while the top one with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of flash will cost $370. For comparison, in China, the base Realme 11 Pro+ costs $290 (although it has 12 GB of RAM, not 8 GB), and the price of the 12/512 GB version is $320. That is, prices will be higher than in China, but not by much.
The insider also announced the cost of the global Realme 11 Pro: 8/128 GB – $ 290, 8/256 GB – $ 310.
Recall, Realme 11 Pro + is built on SoC MediaTek Dimensity 7050, equipped with a 6.7-inch OLED screen, a frame rate of 120 Hz and a PWM frequency of 2160 Hz, a camera with sensors with a resolution of 200, 8 and 2 MP, a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh with 100W charging support. Realme 11 Pro is a little simpler: it has a camera with 108 and 2 megapixel sensors, and wired charging power is 67 watts.
Sudhanshu Ambhore has an extensive track record of leaks. For example, he posted details about Nokia 1.4, Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite, Realme 7 and Realme 7 Pro in Europe and many other mobile novelties before their official announcement.
