Google has released a significant update for Chrome OS-based laptops – a test version of Android 11 is now available.
It’s been two years since the Android OS on Chromebooks received a major update. Android 9 Pie turned out to be somewhat disappointing due to the small number of improvements. Since then, Google has only been fixing the current problems and redesigning Android under the ARCVM (ARC Virtual Machine) system for running applications.
And now, the wait is over and a new build of Android 11 with ARCVM has become available in the beta version of Chrome OS. Enthusiasts have already tested Android 11 on the HP Chromebook x360 14c and Acer Chromebook 713. They did not notice any performance degradation or any significant innovations in the new Android build – the main changes took place under the hood, including the move to ARCVM. Nevertheless, there are still a couple of innovations that are noticeable to users.
First, a dark theme, long requested by users, has appeared. Chrome OS 89 introduces a new toggle for dark mode in developer settings that finally lets you dim the glow of Android apps, though only a few. Second, Google has made a more successful attempt to properly scale Android apps in Chrome OS, the project’s Achilles heel that developers have long battled without much success.
With Android 11 and ARCVM on Chrome OS, the general way of launching apps has changed. Android apps now run in a virtual machine. On the one hand, this increases security, and on the other, it gives hope for more regular and faster Android updates for Chrome OS.
New fat MacBook Pro with bangs compared to 13-inch MacBook Pro
Verified online insider Ben Geskin, who regularly posts interesting concept art and rumored renders, has posted comparison photos of the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 13-inch MacBook Pro from the previous generation.
The insider noted that he had no problems using the new laptop equipped with bangs. In addition, he confirmed that the new MacBook Pro has an excellent display, but at the same time it is noticeably thicker than its predecessor.
The first results of testing the new MacBook Pro based on the Apple M1 Max SoC in the popular Geekbench test application confirmed that it is twice as fast as its predecessors on the Apple M1 in terms of multi-core CPU performance. In the GPU test, the new product scored 68,870 points. For comparison, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Apple M1 scored 20,581 points, while the Radeon Pro 5600M, which is equipped with the previous top-end MacBook Pro with Intel SoCs, scored 42,510 points.
New 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops will go on sale shortly, the exact date will be announced later.

The next generation MacBook Air will get a lot of new stuff. First of all, there will be a new and much more powerful M2 single-chip system than the current Air. Also promised is a keyboard with full-size top-row keys, MagSafe support, a webcam that can stream Full HD video, and a pair of USB-C ports with Thunerbolt 4 interface.
The source suggests that the next generation MacBook Air will be offered in seven colors.
John Prosser is a pretty reliable insider. He previously posted the first official Android 12 commercial, as well as images of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro that were later confirmed.
New MacBook Air due next year with Mini-LED display like new MacBook Pro, M2 processor and MagSafe
Several sources have shared details about the next generation MacBook Air. The well-known resource DigiTimes claims that the laptop will receive a Mini-LED screen like the recently debuted MacBook Pro. The new model will allow Apple to increase shipments of these notebooks by 2 million units per year. The report indicates that the 11-inch iPad Pro will also launch next year and will also receive a Mini LED screen.
iOS developer and Apple analyst, known on Twitter by nickname Dylan, has more details on the upcoming MacBook Air. According to him, the new product will be released in mid-2022, will receive support for MagSafe, a webcam that allows you to broadcast Full HD video, USB-C ports, a 30-watt charger. The device will be built on the M2 platform and will receive a completely passive cooling system. The bezels of the screen and keyboard will be reduced, and the top row of keys will become full-size.
