Motorola seems to have decided to take the bull by the horns and actively expand its smartphone lineup amid impressive sales growth in the US.

According to the FCC, the novelty will not have 5G support, so the smartphone can receive, for example, SoC Snapdragon 680 or MediaTek Helio G88/G96.

As for the design, it is as typical as possible for the current generation of Motorola smartphones.

AMD Senior Vice President Sam Naffziger revealed some details about the RDNA 3 architecture and products based on it. He also touched upon the topic of energy consumption.

The demand for gaming and computing performance is increasing, while at the same time the development of technical processes is slowing down quite sharply. Thus, the power level will only increase. We now have a multi-year roadmap with very significant energy efficiency improvements to offset this curve, but the trend is there.

Performance is critical, but even if our designs are more energy efficient, that doesn’t mean we won’t raise power levels if competitors are doing the same. They’ll just have to raise them much higher than us.

Thus, the Radeon RX 7000 line, despite the previously stated 50 percent advantage (over the RX 6000) in power efficiency, will stand out for its high power consumption simply because of the huge performance boost. At the same time, AMD is confident that Nvidia will have to increase power consumption even higher.

For now, the RX 6000 line is more power efficient than the GeForce RTX 30, although the difference isn’t huge. Previously, there were rumors that the top-end RX 7900 XT will consume 450 watts versus 600 watts in the case of the RTX 4090, but so far these are just rumors.

Airbus to open its own research center in China

Airbus will set up its own research center in the Chinese city of Suzhou (eastern Jiangsu province). The corresponding agreement was signed the day before with the Suzhou Industrial Park.

The opening of the research center is aimed at promoting Airbus’ long-term cooperation with China, as well as strengthening the company’s presence in the local market. Its task will include conducting research in the field of advanced technologies such as hydrogen energy and advanced manufacturing, as well as modernizing the aviation industry through digitalization and artificial intelligence. It is scheduled to start operating in 2023.

Airbus also said the company aims to develop the world’s first zero-emission commercial aircraft by 2035. This project is in line with China’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

As noted, the Airbus production scheme in China covers the entire chain – from the purchase of raw materials to the creation of small components and the assembly of large ones – for many of the company’s aircraft, including the Airbus A220, A320, A330 and A350 models.

They are characterized by volume efficiency (72% – and, according to the manufacturer, this is a world record), as well as high energy density – up to 255 W h / kg. Qilin cells are capable of storing 13% more energy than 4680 cells in Tesla electric vehicles.

CATL notes that Qilin will easily provide a range of 1000 km – and even more. Another feature that is no less important for an electric car is support for fast charging. The manufacturer says that it will be possible to charge the battery by 70% (from 10 to 80%) in just ten minutes (that is, 700 km, based on a maximum power reserve of 1000 km). True, to achieve such a charging speed, you will still have to find the appropriate terminal.

The manufacturer also talks about innovative liquid cooling technology with a fourfold increase in heat transfer area, due to which the cells are cooled much more efficiently. Of course, CATL claims Qilin is completely thermally stable and safe.

Mass production of the new CATL traction batteries will start in 2023. Accordingly, serial cars with Qilin should appear next year. CATL supplies its batteries to Tesla, Volkswagen, BMW, Nio. As for Qilin specifically, their use in Roewe, Lotus and Li Auto electric vehicles has already been confirmed.
