AMD has just begun to market video cards based on the RDNA 3 architecture, but is already ready to talk about RDNA 4. The head of the Radeon Technologies Group, David Wang, spoke about the new generation in an interview with 4Gamer.

Of course, there is still little information and it is very superficial, because the first cards based on RDNA 4 are unlikely to be released before the second half of 2024.

For example, Wang talked about how AMD doesn’t want to limit GPU AI to scaling technologies like FSR. The company sees many more opportunities, but doesn’t want users to overpay for something they won’t use. Here Wang mentioned Nvidia, which has integrated large tensor units into its GPUs and is now looking for opportunities to use them. AMD believes that this solution is not the best fit for gaming graphics cards.

As an example of the possible use of an AI accelerator in the GPU, the head of the Radeon Technologies Group cited the behavior of opponents and non-player characters in games (NPCs). The AI-based learning model would be more flexible in this case, allowing developers to give gamers new opportunities. Here, by the way, we can recall the experiments of enthusiasts on the implementation of ChatGPT in games specifically for NPCs, thanks to which you can communicate with them about everything, just like with a regular online chat bot. It is possible that something similar awaits us in games in the near future.

AI can also be used for image processing. Wang recalled that the sensational GPU Stable Diffusion neural network was based on the Vulkan ML API.

Micron calls Crucial T700 worlds fastest SSD

Promotional materials for the Crucial T700 solid-state drive have been published on the Web. In them, Micron lists all the characteristics of the device and notes that the T700 is the fastest SSD on the planet.

Claimed sequential read and write speeds are 12,400 and 11,800 MB/s, respectively. The creators talk about two times the superiority of PCIe 4 SSDs and 22 times the superiority of SSDs with SATA interfaces.

The device uses 232-layer Micron memory and a Phison controller. Retail options will come with 1, 2 and 4 TB of flash memory. Interestingly, the T700 will have both a version with a heatsink (with advanced fins and no noisy fan) and a regular version without any cooling. One of the materials demonstrates very well what a cooling system is.

GeForce RTX 3050 which you can always take with you

ADLink has expanded its range with an unusual device called Pocket AI. This is a portable video card in a very compact package.

Technically, this is a stripped-down mobile GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop, that is, we are talking about 2048 CUDA cores and 4 GB of memory, but the bus is halved to 64 bits.

At the same time, TGP is only 25 watts. True, despite this, the device still requires a power connection, although almost any charger with USB Power Delivery 3.0+ support will do here. Connection to a PC is implemented via Thunderbolt 3.

The dimensions of the novelty are 106 x 72 x 25 mm with a weight of 250 g, that is, you can easily take a 3D card with you if necessary.

The price is still unknown, and sales will begin in June.

Among the Radeon RX 7900 and GeForce RTX 40 there

All the latest news regarding the reduction in the price of AMD video cards concerned the latest RX 7900 models. Meanwhile, the previous generation sometimes looks more attractive. For example, the Radeon RX 6950 XT is currently on sale for just $656!

Among the Radeon RX 7900 and GeForce RTX 40, there is no such offer. Radeon RX 6950 XT sells for just $656

Apparently, this is the lowest price (or one of the lowest) for such an adapter since the release. Recall that the RX 6950 XT initially started at $1,100.

For $ 656 they give the XFX Speedster Merc 319. But this is in the USA, that is, the price is excluding taxes. In Europe, the cheapest option already with taxes is given for 720 euros, and this is the Sapphire Nitro card.

According to AMD itself, the RX 7900 XT is only 5-7% faster than the RX 6950 XT. At the same time, the cheapest RX 7900 XT will now cost $ 800. The GeForce RTX 40 line also does not offer similar price-performance ratios, since the RTX 4070 Ti will cost at least the same $ 800.
