AMD today unveiled the Radeon RX 6000M mobile graphics cards. We were shown three adapters, and at the same time demonstrated tests, where the Radeon RX 6600M is faster than the GeForce RTX 3060, and the RX 6800M bypasses the RTX 3080.
Of course, these are manufacturer’s tests, so they will need to be rechecked. But it has already become known that AMD had to be a little cunning in order to get the demonstrated results.
No, AMD didn’t lie. It’s just that in the case of the above adapter pairs, the Radeon cards have always had a larger TGP (Total Graphics Power). And this would not be a big deal if we were talking about maximum values in both cases.
For example, in a pair of RX 6800M and RTX 3080, the first card was characterized by a maximum indicator of 160 W (145 W of the base power limit and plus 15 W in the framework of SmartShift technology), but the second was content with 130 W (115 + 15 W), while the maximum the value for it is 165 W.
In a pair of RX 6600M and RTX 3060, the former had a maximum TGP of 100W, while the latter had 95W (90 + 5W), while the maximum value for the card is 115W.
Simply put, the tested Radeon cards ran at their maximum capacity, while Nvidia’s cards have noticeably faster versions.
This doesn’t make the AMD comparison false, but keep in mind that Nvidia cards can be faster than AMD’s charts show. And in this case, the advantage may well be on their side.
However, it is worth remembering that in the case of modern top-end mobile video cards, the difference between the same model with different power limits can reach 20-30%, so you should always pay attention to this aspect when choosing a laptop.
Named the likely date of the announcement of the mobile processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
Qualcomm has updated its 2022 product launch roadmap. And there, among other things, they indicated the likely date for the announcement of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It is expected to be shown on the first day of the Snapdragon Summit event, which will be held from November 14 to 17.
Qualcomm also announced the Snapdragon X70 5G modem that will be included with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It is credited with download speeds of up to 10 Gbps, as well as new advanced features for working in fifth-generation networks.
The processor (SM8550) will be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process. It will use a three-cluster layout. The composition is expected to include one super-powerful Cortex X3 core, two productive Cortex-A720 and A710, as well as three energy-efficient Cortex-A510. An Adreno740 graphics accelerator is also expected.
It is assumed that the first smartphone based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor will be Xiaomi 13, its presentation is expected before the end of 2022.
Are the recommended prices for modern video cards too high? Calculated how adapters are priced based on performance
Current generation video cards have been heavily overpriced almost all the time due to scarcity and demand from miners. Now the prices are getting back to normal, but how normal are the prices that are recommended? The source decided to evaluate how fair these prices are in terms of performance.
The source took the GeForce RTX 3070 as a conditional standard, which, according to our colleagues, is fairly priced if we take 4K resolution.
As you can see, there is an even more profitable graphics card – GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. That is, it offers more than its price of $400. As for the rest of Nvidia’s cards, most of them have not gone far from the standard, offering 90-94% price match. But all high cards are heavily overvalued. The same GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, according to such calculations, should cost only $ 814, and not $ 2,000 at all.
As far as AMD cards are concerned, only the Radeon RX 6800 and 6800 XT can be distinguished here, which are very close to 100%. Also, the Radeon RX 6700 XT has a rate of 92%. The rest of the cards are significantly more overpriced, although no model falls short of the RTX 3090 Ti in this indicator, simply because even the RX 6950 XT is almost half the price.
It is worth mentioning separately that the source only evaluated performance in games, so all calculations are rather arbitrary. They do not take into account the non-gaming capabilities of video cards, the same huge amount of memory in top GeForces, the complexity of GPU and PCB production, and so on.
Incredible CPU performance or super powerful iGPU. Ryzen 7000 mobile processor details revealed
The new generation of mobile Ryzen 7000 processors will be much more impressive than their predecessors than the desktop ones, according to recent data.
We are talking about a line of APUs called Dragon Range. Processors in this line will be labeled as Ryzen 70000HX. Now AMD also has such APUs, but they are not much different from other mobile high-end models. Dragon Range will be very different.
As you can see, the source says that within this line, AMD will finally launch processors with more than eight cores in the mobile segment. More specifically, the Ryzen 9 7980HX will have 16 cores, the Ryzen 9 7900HX will have 12 cores, the Ryzen 7 7800HX will have 8 cores, and the Ryzen 5 7600HX will have 6 cores. That is, these APUs will be as similar as possible to desktop ones. True, AMD’s Ryzen mobile processors have always had a monolithic crystal, and that is why they were maximum eight-core. It turns out that Dragon Range will be chiplet. Perhaps, physically, these will be the same desktop APUs, only with reduced power limits. For example, the source indicates the maximum frequencies in the range of 4.8-5.0 GHz or slightly higher. In addition, such APUs will receive iGPUs with 256 stream processors.
AMD will also have a Phoenix line with Ryzen 7000HS processors. These APUs will be more familiar with six to eight cores. The Ryzen 9 7980HS, Ryzen 9 7900HS, and Ryzen 7 7800HS will each have eight cores, while the Ryzen 5 7600HS will have six. In this case, the former will receive an iGPU with 1536 stream processors, and the latter will have a core with 768 stream processors.
The older iGPU, as previously stated and according to the source, will operate at frequencies of 2.6-3.0 GHz, which will provide incredible performance for the integrated graphics core – 9.2 TFLOPS. This could be the level of the mobile GeForce RTX 3060 Max-Q.
Despite the smaller number of processor cores, such APUs can also be chiplet-based. The source believes that there will be three crystals: a processor, an iGPU, and some kind of chiplet associated with the memory subsystem. Perhaps it will be Infinity Cache memory.
