All iPhone 13 Models Reported To Get LiDAR Cameras, Not Just Pro

The Chinese specialized edition DigiTimes announced that the new generation of the iPhone will be equipped with modern LiDAR sensor devices, and this will affect all models without exception. As a source of information, the newspaper names “representatives of the supply chain” Apple.

In the current lineup, only the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are equipped with such sensors. Now, according to informed sources, Apple will apply LiDAR technology “on all 2021 iPhone models.”

The components are expected to be supplied by Sony, which has signed a three-year contract with Apple to supply components for the LiDAR modules. It is assumed that the contract will mean the continuation of the inclusion of LiDAR in iPhones and other “Apple” equipment until at least 2023.

In the current Pro versions of the iPhone, the LiDAR sensor is used to quickly calculate the distance to an object, making it extremely useful for focusing cameras in low light conditions. It also has the ability to create accurate environmental depth maps, which has practical uses in AR applications.
