Advantage ProRAW format in iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max demonstrated in night photos

The advantages of the professional format of ProRAW photos were shown on the example of night photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro smartphone.

As a reminder, the ProRAW format was added in iOS 14.3 beta for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

According to the author of the images, ProRAW gives the opportunity to get much more detail than using standard extensions. This is useful for those planning to do post-processing on a photo. You can adjust the exposure, reduce the brightness of certain areas, add colors and so on.

But there are also disadvantages. The main one is the size of the files. In ProRAW, images are in the order of 25MB.

Apple says ProRAW combines the benefits of Smart HDR and Deep Fusion with the benefits of raw RAW. And judging by the photo, it’s true.

To switch to the Apple ProRAW format, you need to install iOS 14.3, then go to the smartphone settings, then find the “Camera” section and then “Formats”.
