After it was acquired by Microsoft for a properly outrageous amount to be repeated too often, Activision Blizzard has ensured that all of its games currently present at sony will not be subject to withdrawals. Because an aftershock should not be added to an already extraordinary first earthquake.
It’s easy to lose a sense of reality when so much money is involved. Two days ago was announced the takeover of Activision-Blizzard-King by Microsoft. For the amount committed, close to 70 billion dollars, it seemed almost certain that the other green giant wanted to lock in a number of licenses for its own flowerbeds.
By June 2023, franchises such as Call of Duty, Warcraft, Overwatch, Guitar Hero and a no less prestigious Crash Bandicoot will effectively become Xbox brands. Ironic when you remember that the crazy marsupial had made the heyday of the first PlayStation of the name, where it remained exclusive there.
Takeover of Activision-Blizzard-King by Microsoft: Sony hopes to maintain multiplatform
What about the aforementioned licenses, episodes of which are currently marketed on platforms other than Microsoft? Activision has commented on the issue in an employee FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. In particular, it was a question of respecting the agreements previously made with Sony, Google and Apple:
“We will honor all existing commitments after the closing of the transaction. Similar to Microsoft’s acquisition of Minecraft, we have no intention of removing any content from the platforms where it exists today.”
Words that tend to reassure the partners of Activision and in particular Sony, which had declared following the takeover that it was waiting for the current contractual agreements not to be shattered. And that Activision’s currently multi-platform games remain so. And if it is likely that one or more of these brands will end up being playable only on Xbox, Microsoft would have the idea to produce Activision Blizzard titles for PlayStation. The head of the Xbox division even said on this subject:
“We have no intention of driving communities away from this platform”.
VGC nevertheless recalls that Phil Spencer had made a similar speech after the takeover of Bethesda, so that Microsoft finally confirmed that the studio’s next titles would be released on Xbox, PC and nowhere else.
Aya Neo portable consoles introduced with Ryzen 6800U, OLED and Windows OS
Aya Neo has announced Aya Neo Air and Aya Neo 2 handheld game consoles. Aya NeoAir is the first Windows-based handheld console with an OLED screen, while Aya Neo 2 is powered by AMD Ryzen 6800U chipset.
Aya Neo Air is equipped with a modern vibration motor, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB-C port and a microSD card slot. It also has RGB lighting and speaker holes on both sides. The Aya Neo Air is very similar to the Nintendo Switch Lite but powerful enough to match the Steam Deck.
Aya Neo is equipped with a 6-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution screen that covers 109% of the NTSC color space. Aya Neo Air is based on the Ryzen 5000 APU. The device weighs about 420 grams.
The Aya Neo Air is available for pre-order now in China, where the device is priced at $647.
The Aya Neo model has a 5.5-inch OLED screen and AMD Ryzen 6800U chipset, which is the first to be used in a handheld game console. There are no details about the device, but it is known that it will be released at the end of the year.
AYANEO2 game console graphics performance is twice that of Steam Deck
The AYANEO2 handheld game console from China has become the first device in its category based on AMD Rembrandt APUs (Ryzen 6000U series) with Zen3+ architecture CPU and RDNA2 GPU. More specifically, AYANEO2 is based on the AMD Ryzen 7 6800U APU.
Probably, at the moment AYANEO2 is the most powerful device in the segment, since the same AYANEO NEXT and ONEXPLAYER Mini are based on the Ryzen 7 5800U. As for the Steam Deck, it is architecturally similar to AYANEO2 in terms of the graphics subsystem, only the Radeon 680M, which is part of the Ryzen 7 6800U, has 50% more computing units and 600 MHz higher GPU frequency. Therefore, the performance is 3.38 TFLOPS versus 1.6 TFLOPS in favor of the Chinese news. This is about graphics, but in terms of CPU, AYANEO2 also has an advantage: 8 cores, 16 threads and a maximum frequency of 4.7 GHz versus 4 cores, 8 threads and a frequency of 3.5 GHz for Steam Deck.
The developers have already demonstrated AYANEO2 in popular games like Metro Exodus, Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 and Elden Ring. From what they showed, the screen resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels.
Alas, the date of the full-fledged premiere of AYANEO2 has not yet been announced. But the appearance of the device on sale is promised by the end of the year.
The new PlayStation 5 model is ready for production: the console will receive a 6-nm processor from AMD
Sony Interactive Entertainment has registered a new PlayStation 5 model in Japan. The company received certification for a console with model number CFI-1200 with updated radio equipment. The original PS5 uses the CFI-1XXX model numbering scheme, while the 2021 version uses the CFI-11XX model numbering scheme.
The product has been certified by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, which guarantees that radio and wireless communications equipment meets certain technical standards.
In May last year, it was reported that Sony would begin production of the updated PS5 console in 2022. It will use a “new semi-customized” 6nm processor from AMD (the original processor was manufactured on a 7nm process). Taiwanese business website DigiTimes said that suppliers, including semiconductor factory TSMC, planned to begin production of the updated PS5 console between the second and third quarters of this year.
Last year’s redesigned PS5 was purely component-focused and didn’t see any significant external changes. It is quite possible that this will happen again with the CFI-1200 model.
Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki said last year that the company is looking at various solutions to help it deal with the global shortage of hardware components, including potential redesign or finding secondary suppliers.
Sony announced on Tuesday that it shipped 11.5 million PS5 consoles during the fiscal year ending March 2022, missing its original goal of 14.8 million by more than three million units, due to a shortage of parts.
However, the company has said it expects to sell significantly more PS5 consoles (18 million units) during the current fiscal year ending March 2023.
