The global wrist-based electronics market grew 5.6% year-on-year in the second quarter to 40.9 million units. At the same time, the supply of entry-level bracelets continued to decline. In the second quarter, they were shipped 15.5 million units, which is 23.8% less in annual terms. The decrease in the supply of bracelets is offset by the increase in the supply of watches. Smartwatch shipments reached 25.4 million, an increase of 37.9%. Watches now account for 62% of the world’s wrist-worn device shipments. Such data are contained in the report of the analytical company Canalys. Analysts expect smartwatches to continue to be a growth engine in the coming years.
The market leader is Xiaomi, which accounts for 19.6% of shipments. Note that a year ago, Xiaomi’s share was 20.1%. In second place is Apple, whose share increased from 15.8% to 19.3% over the year. It is followed by Huawei with 9.2%. A year ago, Huawei’s share was 21.0%. The top five also include Firbit and Samsung. The share of the former increased from 6.4% to 7.3% over the year, and the share of the latter – from 3.0% to 6.1%.
1.64-inch AMOLED screen, heart rate and SpO2 monitoring, water resistance, over 100 training modes and 14 days of battery life for $ 85. Oppo Watch Free Smartwatch Introduced
Together with the K9 Pro 5G smartphone, the Oppo brand today introduced the Oppo Watch Free smartwatch in China. The weight of the novelty is only 33 grams (dimensions – 46 x 29.7 x 10.6 mm), while the declared autonomy is as much as 14 days! The price of the device is low – $ 85.
The Oppo Watch Free features a 1.64-inch AMOLED screen with 326 ppi pixels and 100% DCI-P3 color space coverage. The configuration also includes heart rate, SpO2 and light sensors (for automatic screen brightness adjustment), Bluetooth 5.0 adapter. There is water protection (5ATM – this means that you can swim with the watch, but you do not want to dive), support for over 100 training modes (four of them are automatically recognized: running, walking, rowing and an elliptical trainer).
Oppo Watch Free focuses on sleep monitoring. The system records the user’s state before, during sleep and after waking up. At night, the watch monitors sleep phases, eyeball movements, blood oxygen content, heart rate, snoring – all this data is collected and analyzed in order to further give recommendations that will save the user from snoring and other sleep problems.
The claimed autonomy, as mentioned above, is 14 days, and 5 minutes of charging is enough for one day of work. The watch supports displaying notifications coming to a paired smartphone, allows you to control the phone’s media player. The novelty will go on sale on September 30 in two colors (black and gold).
Smart watches Xiaomi Watch Color 2 received GPS, NFC and support for many third-party applications
Xiaomi has published another teaser dedicated to the Watch Color 2 smartwatch. The new image suggests that the watch will receive support for many third-party applications that users can install on their own. According to the official description, Watch Color 2 will be able not only to provide navigation and monitor vital signs during training, but also “identify constellations, manage accounts and explore menus“. All this – just with the help of third-party applications.
The mention of navigation indicates the presence of a GPS receiver in the device, and the AliPay icon indicates NFC support. Also, the device is assigned an AMOLED screen with a diameter of 1.39 inches. Xiaomi has already announced that the watch will support 117 training modes, and will also receive more than 200 themes for the main screen. There is no doubt about the presence of a heart rate sensor and a pulse oximeter. Recall that the official premiere of Xiaomi Watch Color 2 will take place tomorrow.
Mysterious 60 GHz Transmitter Discovered in Apple Watch Series 7
In smart watches Apple Watch Series 7, a mysterious module was unexpectedly discovered, operating at a very high frequency of 60.5 GHz.
The mention of him was found in documents in the FCC database. It also states that the module is activated when the watch is placed on a proprietary magnetic docking station. It is assumed that we are talking about a specialized device used in Apple service centers. That is, this is a module for internal use by company specialists, for example, for diagnostics or configuration.
The docking station is also known to have part number A2687 and is powered by a USB-C port. One of the sources speaks about the possible data transfer rate through the negotiated channel up to 480 Mbit / s, that is, at the USB 2.0 level. Perhaps, with the release of the watch on sale, there will be more information about the mysterious module.
