“A true all-screen flagship.” ZTE Axon 40 Ultra with no notch screen and three 64-megapixel sensors shown in official renderings
ZTE today released high-quality renderings of its new flagship, the Axon 40 Ultra. It is notable for its display with a sub-screen front camera – most smartphones now cost embedded modules. Therefore, the novelty is called “a real full-screen flagship.”
ZTE was among the first companies to start using under-screen front cameras. The first generation modules did not provide good quality for shooting photos and videos, but the Axon 40 Ultra is doing well with this – the quality of shooting with the front camera should be no worse than that of Xiaomi Mix 4.
Data from the TENAA regulator database suggests that the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra received a 6.8-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2480 x 1116 pixels, a 4900 mAh battery, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The front camera sensor resolution was 16 MP , in the main one there are three 64-megapixel sensors, and one of them is in the periscope module that provides optical zoom.
The ZTE Atxon 40 Ultra has three RAM options (8GB, 12GB and 16GB) and four flash storage options – 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Model dimensions – 163.28 x 73.56 x 8.41 mm, weight – 204 grams.
TENAA also revealed the parameters of the Axon 40 Pro model. There is also a 16-megapixel front camera, but no longer embedded. The main one is represented by sensors with a resolution of 108, 8, 2 and 2 megapixels. There are four options for RAM and flash memory: 6, 8, 12 and 16 GB, as well as 128, 256, 512 GB and 1 TB, respectively. The dimensions and weight of the Axon 40 Pro are 162.9 x 72.9 x 8.46 mm and 199 grams.
The official premiere of new products will take place on May 9th. The cost has not yet been announced, but it is unlikely that the new ZTE flagships will be cheap.

AMD will not remain a monopolist in the console market. The next Nintendo Switch will likely use the Nvidia platform again

The second-generation Nintendo Switch console, whatever it’s called, looks set to once again be based on Nvidia’s single-chip system.
This conclusion is made by sources based on a new Nvidia vacancy. The company is looking for a tool engineer for game console developers.
Considering that Sony and Microsoft have long opted for AMD solutions, the current Nintendo Switch is based on SoC Tegra, and no other major companies seem to be going to seriously enter the console market, it is most likely that we are talking about the development platforms for the new Nintendo console. True, this may mean that such a prefix will not be released soon.
By the way, the other day Nintendo itself indirectly confirmed that it would continue to use the Nvidia platform in its new console. The company said that it is very important for it to maintain the continuity of generations and implement a smooth transition. And the easiest way to do this is to keep the platform of the same manufacturer.

World’s first 14″ laptop with 75Wh battery and Magic OS. Honor MagicBook 14 unveiled with 2K screen, Intel Core 12 processors and GeForce RTX 2050 GPU

Huawei has officially unveiled the next-generation 14-inch MagicBook 14 laptop. Even before the announcement, Huawei characterized the novelty as a device with outstanding autonomy, and now it became clear why it was implemented: the developers call the novelty the world’s first 14-inch laptop with a 75 Wh battery. It was also said about the influence of Magic OS (this is a set of proprietary applications for Windows) on the device’s ability to work 20 hours offline, but battery capacity still plays a decisive role here.
I must say, while the MagicBook 14 2022 is thin and compact (although the screen bezels could be smaller), it even allows you to play games – and even with ray tracing! The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 discrete 3D accelerator is responsible for graphics processing in this model. However, the basic models get by with integrated graphics, and the “middle” version offers a simpler discrete GPU – the GeForce MX 550.
Processors – Intel Core i5-12500H in the base version and Intel Core i7-12650H – in the top one. The amount of LPDDR5 RAM was 16 GB, the amount of SSD – 512 GB. The novelty received a new cooling system with two fans, two heat pipes and a radiator increased by 66% of the area. Compared to its predecessor, the airflow is increased by 35%.
The 14-inch laptop screen covers 88.15% of the lid. The resolution is 2160 x 1440 pixels, the frame rate is standard 60 Hz. The display is characterized by a brightness of 300 cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 1500:1 and coverage of 100% of the sRGB color space.
The case of Honor MagicBook 14 2022 is made of aluminum. The thickness is 15.9 mm, and the weight of the device is 1.54 kg. The configuration of the device also includes a fingerprint scanner built into the power key, a backlit keyboard, a webcam that allows you to record 720p video, a pair of USB-C ports.
The new MagicBook 14 with Core i5 retails for $810, but early adopters can pre-order for $735. The Core i7 version is priced at $840. Sales of new items in China will start on May 19.

The Mars helicopter Ingenuity failed to communicate with the Perseverance rover for the first time. The connection has already been restored.

For the first time in more than a year, the Ingenuity Mars helicopter failed to communicate with the Perseverance rover at the scheduled time. The connection was finally restored.
The communication failure took place on May 3, NASA talked about it a few days later, but many media then missed this news. Helicopter data indicates that the crash was the result of the helicopter going into low power mode, possibly due to a seasonal increase in airborne dust.
Dust reduces the amount of sunlight reaching the helicopter’s solar panel, which reduces Ingenuity’s ability to recharge its six lithium-ion batteries. When the battery state of charge fell below the low limit, one of the FPGAs that manages Ingenuity’s operating state was turned off, turning other avionics on and off as needed to maximize power savings. It also manages the heaters that keep the helicopter surviving the cold Martian nights, maintains accurate time, and controls when the helicopter must wake up for communication with Perseverance.
Accordingly, when during the next Martian night the FPGA turned off, the onboard clock of the helicopter, which indicates the time when communication with Perseverance occurs, was reset. Ingenuity’s heaters, critical to keeping electronics and other components operating at temperature, have shut down. When the sun rose the next morning and the solar panel began charging the batteries, the clock on the helicopter was out of sync with the clock on board the rover. In fact, when Ingenuity thought it was time to contact Perseverance, the rover’s base station wasn’t listening because it shouldn’t be at the time.
To make sure Perseverance heard the call, Perseverance mission controllers ordered the rover to spend nearly all of Sol 429 (May 5) listening to the helicopter signal. It arrived at 11:45 local Martian time. Data transmitted was limited to deliberately conserve battery life, but critical health and safety data for the helicopter was nominal. Radio communication between Ingenuity and Perseverance was stable, the spacecraft temperature was within expected limits, the solar panel was recharging the battery at the rate expected for this season, and the battery was healthy at 41% full charge.
We have always known that the Martian winter and dust storm season will bring new challenges to Ingenuity, such as a colder sun, more atmospheric dust, and more frequent dust storms. Every flight and every mile of distance traveled 30 sols over our original mission pushed the spacecraft to its limits every sol on Mars.
The Ingenuity and Perseverance teams have come up with a plan that they hope will make a difference. Their goal is to help the helicopter’s battery build up enough charge over the next few sols to keep it running all the spacecraft’s essential systems on a cold Martian night. The new commands are lowering the temperature at which the helicopter turns on its heaters from -15 to -40 degrees Celsius. The helicopter then quickly shuts down instead of wasting battery power on the heaters. The team hopes that this strategy will allow the battery to retain all the charge accumulated during the day.
At the moment, no new NASA publications regarding Ingenuity have appeared.
