Researchers at the ETH Zurich (ETH Zurich) have discovered a new attack mechanism against Intel and AMD processors, including Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake, Zen 1, Zen 1+, and Zen 2. It’s called Retbleed, and it works by speculatively executing arbitrary code. This gives him the ability to steal passwords and sensitive data.
Speculative execution is a computational optimization technique that allows the processor to execute operations before it knows whether they are required for future tasks. That is, there is a so-called branching.
The principle of the vulnerability looks like this: if the processor determines that the branch prediction has not come true, then it rolls back the operation. However, the data processed in this case remains in the cache and buffer, and can be read.
That is, if a virus exploiting the Retbleed vulnerability launches a command, it fails, while residual files get into the cache. The cycle then repeats until the system shuts down.
At the same time, to remove the virus, you will have to sacrifice part of the system performance, since branch prediction is what makes modern CPUs so fast.
Both companies have already stated that they are aware of the problem and promised a speedy solution. At the same time, mass application of this vulnerability has not yet been reported, however, individual cases have been recorded.
But in the M1 processor there is a gap that cannot be closed by software.
The most powerful embedded AMD processors. Ryzen Embedded 5000 Not Shown Yet, But Already Available
Advantech unveiled AIMB-522 motherboard with unseen Ryzen Embedded 5000 embedded processors.
The motherboard itself is not of particular interest, but the CPUs are curious. If usually embedded CPUs are based on mobile devices and are noticeably inferior to desktop ones in all respects, then the Ryzen Embedded 5000 almost in everything corresponds to the usual consumer Ryzen 5000.
In total, the line includes four processors: Ryzen 5950E, Ryzen 5900E, Ryzen 5800E and Ryzen 5600E. At the same time, the younger two are almost identical to consumer counterparts, and the older two offer slightly fewer cores.
As you can see, the Ryzen 5950E has 12 cores versus 16 for the Ryzen 9 5950X. The Ryzen 5900E already has only two fewer cores than the Ryzen 9 5900X. But the base frequencies for older CPUs are exactly the same, although the maximum ones are not indicated.
The names of the CPUs are also valid here, as these are processors based on the Zen 3 architecture.
$870 OLED 2.8K 90Hz screen, Ryzen 7 6800H, three USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and slim aluminum chassis. Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 2022 Ryzen Edition available for order in China
Retail sales of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 2022 Ryzen Edition in China will start tomorrow, but the device is already available for pre-order. And it’s better to really hurry up, because pre-ordering the device will cost much less. For example, the base version with a Ryzen 5 6600H CPU, 16GB LPDDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 512GB SSD is now available for $800 and retails for $960. The Ryzen 7 6800H pre-order version is $870, retail is $1,035.
Now all the key parameters of the laptop have become known. So, Mi Notebook Pro 14 2022 Ryzen Edition received an OLED display with a diagonal of 14 inches, a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, a frame rate of 90 Hz and coverage of 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. For a model without a discrete GPU, there is a fairly powerful cooling system – with two fans and two heat pipes.
The interface connectors are represented by three USB-C 3.2 Gen 2. The device configuration also includes a backlit keyboard, a 56 Wh battery, and an all-metal case. The laptop is 14.9 mm thick and weighs 1.4 kg. The package includes a power supply with an output power of 100 W.
GeForce RTX 3090 Ti drops $1,000 in US price in a couple of months
The official cost of the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti in the US is $2,000, but the top models, with a more efficient cooling system and, moreover, overclocked, sold more. For example, the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 cost $2,150. But now the price has fallen, and much.
There are three models in the EVGA RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 lineup, and the base (non-factory overclocked) is now available in the US for $1,150.
Interestingly, a month and a half ago, the very same $2,150 was asked for a video card, three weeks ago the cost dropped to $1,500, and now another reduction is $250. The other two models (already overclocked) of the series are also priced lower: the Ultra version in the US is offered for $1,200, and the Black version for $1,400.
