Microsoft has introduced a major update to the Microsoft Teams service for ordinary users. Previously, the “personal” Microsoft Teams was in the preview stage, and now it is fully launched.

Microsoft announced that new experiences are now available to ordinary users in Teams around the world on PC, mobile and web applications. Previously, these functions were only available for work interaction, but now users can use them from personal accounts to communicate with loved ones.

One of the major innovations is the availability of one of the key features of Microsoft Teams – the Together mode. Now users will be able to turn any ordinary video call into a shared virtual environment to feel in the same space with family and friends. The general backdrop can be chosen from a variety of new virtual environments, such as a family living room, coffee shop, or even a summer resort.

Plus, Teams users will be able to share animated emojis and GIFs in chat, even after the call ends.

As the developers emphasize, links to video calls in Teams can be shared with anyone – even if they don’t use Teams. Friends or family members can join the meeting using any device – Windows PC, macOS, iOS and Android smartphones) or using a web browser.

Another innovation is the ability to create group chats for personal communication. All you have to do is add people using their email or phone number. In group chats, the ability to create to-do lists and tasks is also implemented. In the near future, it will be possible to create polls for group members. Group chats have created a dashboard that organizes all of the group’s shared content – from photos, files, web links to shared tasks and upcoming group events.

Initially, Microsoft Teams was launched as a competitor to the corporate communication solution Slack, but in 2020 there is an increasing emphasis on multi-user video conferencing, as a result of which Teams began to compete with the highly popular Zoom.
