A $ 2,000 graphics card is just the beginning. 32GB DDR5 memory kits sell on eBay for $ 2,300

Even before the start of sales of DDR5 memory, it was clear that it would not be cheap. When Alder Lake processors compatible with it appeared in stores, the retail price of DDR5 became known: on average, this memory costs two to two and a half times as much as DDR4 of the same size. But that was before DDR5 was in short supply.

We talked in detail about the reasons for this deficit last week. In a nutshell, DDR5 manufacturers have an acute shortage of power management ICs. And now in the retail market we have the consequences of this deficit.

A $ 2,000 graphics card is just the beginning. 32GB DDR5 memory kits sell on eBay for $ 2,300

The cost of a set of a pair of 16 GB DDR5 modules each reaches $ 550, on average – less. But the problem is that in stores such kits are listed only nominally, in fact nothing can be bought – everything is “sold out”. The option to get DDR5 is to contact sites like eBay, but the price can be shocking.

According to the source, eBay recently sold a 16GB DDR5-4800 memory kit for $ 890. Another example – a kit of two 32GB Kingston Fury DDR5-5200 modules sold for $ 1,168. In general, there are proposals for a pair of DDR5 kits with a volume of 32 GB for $ 2300-2400. Of course, it is not a fact that they will be sold for such fabulous amounts, but even $ 1000 for 32 GB, which is not much faster than DDR4, is definitely beyond good. Against this background, the current prices for video cards no longer seem huge.

Interestingly, there is no shortage of DDR4 memory – a variety of options of different sizes and in sufficient quantities are on sale.

No, GeForce RTX 2060 12GB Founders Edition will not be available at MSRP. The company will not release a reference version of the novelty

The 12GB GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card that Nvidia unveiled the other day will not be available in the Founders Edition.

Initially, the company indicated such a version on its website, but removed it from the description and confirmed to sources that the new product would not be released in such a version.

Thus, the updated RTX 2060 will be available exclusively in non-reference variants. In the current situation, this is a disadvantage, since Founders Edition cards can at least occasionally be bought at the recommended price directly on the Nvidia website or from its partners. Now it turns out that all RTX 2060s in retail will come with huge markups. By the way, we still don’t know the official price for the updated map.

24-core Intel Raptor Lake processor (Core 13) lit up on the web

Published

Intel has not yet released all the processors of the Alder Lake family (Core 12), and the next generation flagship, Raptor Lake, has already appeared on the Web. It is expected that these processors will be released by the end of next year and will differ from Alder Lake in more cores and slightly increased frequency.

In this case, there are 24 computing cores – 8 large (new generation, Raptor Cove) and 16 small (current generation, Gracemont). Only large ones support multithreading, so the CPU allows 32 threads to execute at the same time. The processor was tested on a platform with DDR5 memory, but according to rumors, Intel in the next generation of the CPU will retain the ability to choose the type of memory – DDR5 or DDR4. The workflow and socket will remain the same as for Alder Lake.
