New details have appeared on the Web about the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 tablet – the company’s best tablet computer and the company’s first novelty in this segment over the past three years. It is logical that like the Mi Mix Fold, which has also been waited for a long time, the Mi Pad 5 should amaze users with its characteristics. And while they look pretty attractive.

But first, let’s look at the new teaser – it demonstrates the design of the model in the spirit of the flagship Mi 11 and reveals the date of the announcement. If the picture is true, then the Mi Pad 5 will be presented exactly in the middle of May.

Another source said the tablet is part number K81C and is already being tested by the regulator in China. Soon we should receive a complete list of its characteristics and live photos – these data are a mandatory part of the tests and are published in the public domain. But already now the source confirms the use of Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC in the tablet. Also mentioned is a 2K screen with a diagonal of 10.95 inches and a battery with a capacity of 8000 mAh.

The feature of the software platform will be a Windows-like operation mode borrowed from Xiaomi Mi Fold. In this mode, the Android interface takes on the features of the Windos interface – with a taskbar at the bottom of the screen and a kind of Start menu in the lower left corner. And there will also be advanced multitasking – with the ability to accommodate up to four simultaneous applications on the display. Not without stylus support.

Other characteristics of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 include a dual camera with sensors with a resolution of 20 and 13 megapixels, a side fingerprint scanner, a body thickness of 8.13 mm and a weight of 510 grams. The base version of the model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of flash is expected to cost around $ 600.

Be that as it may, it is known that the novelty will receive a 13-inch screen and will run Windows. You can also see a relatively thick for a regular tablet, but normal for a Windows tablet, a metal case, a protruding single camera and a slot, apparently, for a SIM card. The case received slightly beveled edges, which, together with the camera module, makes the design of the tablet very atypical.

Xiaomi showed a compact e reader with an E Ink screen

The novelty is an improved version of the usual InkPalm reader. The new model is equipped with a 5.84-inch black and white display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels, backlight with 24 levels of brightness and support for color temperature adjustment. Separately, we note the support for multitouch.

Inside is a Rockchip RK3566 quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal flash memory. Such a chip is usually used in “smart” set-top boxes and other devices of this class. Also, the novelty received a battery with a capacity of 2200 mAh, which is enough for 30 days of operation or about 6000 flips. Charging takes about 2.5 hours.

From wireless communications, we note the presence of Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 adapters. There is no modem and cellular support in the device.

Android is used as the OS, which allows you to install any reader programs, as well as, in principle, any applications for the Google operating system. Although, of course, video players and games on the device are not needed, because the E Ink screen is rather slow to update.

Microsoft Store General Manager Giorgio Sardo said:

To make it easier for customers to migrate to new PCs quickly and seamlessly, we’ll soon be testing a new feature in the Windows Insider channel that will help customers automatically restore their previously installed apps from the Microsoft Store to a new Windows device.

Restoring applications will be especially useful for users who frequently change computers, or for developers who regularly use virtual machines and multiple devices. Previously, Windows users had to rely on third-party package managers to perform these kinds of tasks.
