In 2021, total sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs, including battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles) reached 6.473 million units. Annual growth reached 122%, which is the highest rate since the start of vehicle electrification. Such data are given in the report prepared by specialists of TrendForce analytical company. Based on their calculations, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for approximately 71.6% of total sales and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) for approximately 28.1%, meaning fuel cell vehicle sales remained low.
The first place in the BEV segment was taken by Tesla with total worldwide sales of more than 930,000 units and a market share of 20.2%. Second place was taken by SAIC-GM-Wuling, taking advantage of strong demand for low-cost mini electric vehicles. Other brands, such as Ora and Chery, also saw significant sales gains with mini electric vehicles. TrendForce experts note that the share of the top ten BEV brands has decreased from 64.4% in 2020 to 57% in 2022, indicating increased competition. BYD took first place in the PHEV segment. It has sold 273,000 electric vehicles, representing 15% of the market. The top ten figures in both segments are shown in the table:
One of the best-selling cars in the world has changed generations. 2023 Toyota Yaris unveiled
Toyota presented to the European public an updated fourth-generation Yaris hatchback with an expanded range of hybrids, improved safety features and an updated infotainment system.
The changes start with the new Hybrid 130 transmission, which is offered in addition to the existing Hybrid 115 configuration. Also, the car can smoothly stop, activate emergency lights and unlock the doors.
The new Proactive Driving Assist feature slows the car down if the driver releases the accelerator pedal and there is a car or a curve ahead. There is also a steering assist system that adjusts the force on the steering wheel. Software updates will be downloaded while driving and installed at a convenient time.
The 2023 Toyota Yaris features a new infotainment system. One of the new features is a customizable driver’s instrument display with four options to choose from. The screen size will depend on which model you choose, from 7 to 12.3 inches. The size of the infotainment screen also depends on the model: 9 or 10.5 inches.
