5000 mAh, 16 GB RAM and 12 megapixel sensors in the main camera. Sony Xperia 1 IV may be the most controversial flagship

This year, the debut date of many flagships has shifted forward. January is not over yet, and there are already about a dozen Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 models in China. More flagships will appear in February and March, and one of the latest will be the Sony Xperia 1 IV – its debut is expected only in May. Moreover, according to its characteristics, this model runs the risk of being the most ambiguous.

Compared to the current model, the novelty will receive faster charging (45 W versus 30 W) and a more capacious battery – 5000 mAh versus 4500 mAh. A lot of memory is also promised: 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory in the base version and 16 GB and 512 GB in the top version.

These are all positive changes, but in terms of the camera, not everything is so simple. The 12-megapixel sensor (IMX363) will remain in the module with an ultra-wide-angle lens. The main module and the module with a telephoto lens should receive new sensors, but their resolution will still be 12 megapixels. Given that most flagships, except for the iPhone, now use sensors with a resolution of 50-108 megapixels, and in July the first smartphone with a 200-megapixel camera is expected. Rumor has it that the front camera Xperia 1 IV will be under the screen.

If the smartphone really debuts in May, then it will arrive in global retail around August (Sony traditionally has a long gap between the announcement and the start of global sales). At the same time, in China, the novelty may appear as early as June.

Pebble founder wants to release a compact Android smartphone with

It is quite possible that a compact smartphone from the founder of Pebble will appear on the market in the foreseeable future.

Eric Migicovsky, who founded the acclaimed Pebble, is literally now gathering a new team to release a compact smartphone with Andorid. In fact, at the moment there is no company that will eventually be created for these purposes. Now the Small Android Phone team is only discussing options, but even now the participants are trying to decide on the characteristics.

The team now includes several former Pebble employees, including the founder, GoPro designer, MongoBD manager, and other enthusiasts. Interestingly, it all started, in fact, simply with the cry of Migikowski on the Web for someone to make a good compact smartphone. But, as we know, even the iPhone mini sold very mediocrely.

However, perhaps they were too small. The Small Android Phone team has not yet finalized the dimensions, but has repeatedly mentioned, firstly, that the screen should be less than 6.1 inches diagonally, and secondly, the participants often mentioned ZenFone 9 with a 5-screen diagonal as a reference point. 9 inches.

The team’s designer even already has a number of sketches, although it’s hard to say what the smartphone will be like in the end. But the team definitely focuses on good photo opportunities as well. In addition, apparently, the emphasis will be placed on the materials of the case, along with the tactile sensations of users.

In terms of performance, the smartphone will definitely be very powerful, but not necessarily one of the best. The team is currently looking at two platforms: the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and a mid-range Qualcomm chip that has yet to be released. Although, perhaps, this meant the new SoC Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2, which was just announced the other day, but has not yet hit the market. By the way, such a selection of platforms hints that the smartphone will not be released sometime in a few years, but relatively soon. Perhaps in a year and a half.

There is a guideline for the price: about $ 850.
