Samsung Electronics presented today at the big presentation of Galaxy Unpacked not only the line of smart watches Galaxy Watch 5 and foldable smartphones Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, but also the new fully wireless headphones Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Buds Pro (review). They received a slightly redesigned design, improved sound quality, improved noise cancellation and enhanced connectivity, as well as several other new features.
Headphones are now completely matte, without glossy inserts. They have two speakers – for high and low frequencies, three microphones with a high signal-to-noise ratio, support for 24-bit Hi-Fi Audio.
The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro offers active noise cancellation with “sound transparency” support and a voice recognition feature that automatically switches the headphones to “sound transparency” mode and reduces media volume.
Also among the characteristics are 61 mAh and 500 mAh batteries (case), Bluetooth 5.3 (LE Audio support), water and sweat protection (IPX7). Battery life reaches 5 hours with noise reduction and 8 hours without noise reduction, with recharging from the case – up to 18 and 29 hours, respectively.
Headphones are offered in three colors – black, white and lilac. The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro will go on sale August 26 for $229.99.
Bloomberg: the appearance of Adaptive Transparency Mode in AirPods Pro and AirPods Max is a bug
According to Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman, the Adaptive Transparency Mode feature that debuted on the AirPods Pro 2 wireless earbuds won’t be coming to the original AirPods Pro or AirPods Max.
The adaptive transparency mode setting, which appeared in the beta version of Apple iOS 16.1 Beta 3, according to Gurman, is a bug that will be fixed at the time the final version of the firmware is released.
Previously, AirPods Max and original AirPods Pro users noticed that Adaptive Transparency Mode replaced the original transparency mode setting after updating to iOS 16.1 Beta 3. Apple was believed to be extending this feature to older AirPods.
The adaptive transparency mode of the Apple AirPods Pro 2 wireless headphones is one of their unique features. Bloomberg writes that the original AirPods Pro and AirPods Max won’t have this capability, and Apple accidentally made the adaptive transparency mode setting visible to those devices that don’t actually support it.
With the new H2 chip in AirPods Pro 2, on-device processing technology reduces loud ambient noises such as passing car horns, construction noise, and so on.
AirPods Pro 2 battery capacity has increased by 15%, and the charging case has not changed much
The longer battery life of the second-generation AirPods Pro is partly due to the use of larger batteries in the earbuds themselves, as regulatory filings show.
Apple says that compared to the first-generation AirPods Pro, the second-generation model has an additional 1.5 hours of battery life with active noise cancellation turned on, that is, 6 hours of battery life. Listings in the 3C database show that the AirPods Pro 2 have a 49.7 mAh battery. This is 15% more than the 43.24 mAh capacity of the first generation AirPods Pro.
The second-generation MagSafe Charging Case for AirPods Pro has a 523 mAh battery, just 4 mAh more than the previous model. According to Apple, the second-generation MagSafe Charging Case for AirPods Pro provides an additional six hours of battery life, for a total of 30 hours of listening time with active noise cancellation turned on.
So it’s highly likely that the charging case’s longer battery life is actually mostly due to improvements in the earbuds. In addition to physically larger batteries, AirPods Pro’s second generation H2 chips and new detection sensors help extend battery life through greater power efficiency.
AirPods Pro 2 loses exclusive feature: adaptive transparency mode appeared in AirPods Max
Last week, in iOS 16.1 Beta, it was revealed that the adaptive transparency mode introduced in the second-generation AirPods Pro headset has become available for the original AirPods Pro. Now, users have confirmed that the adaptive transparency mode also works with AirPods Max headphones.
Apple AirPods Max with the latest firmware 5A304a have received an adaptive transparency toggle in AirPods Max settings in both iOS 16.1 beta and iPadOS 16.1, according to MacRumors.
AirPods Pro 2 are powered by the new H2 chip and offer longer battery life, a new charging case and a new earbud size to better fit the wearer’s ear shape. Users can charge AirPods Pro using the Apple Watch charger, Qi-certified charger, and MagSafe.
The adaptive transparency mode can significantly reduce the intensity of loud sounds such as whistles, sirens, or power tools, while still allowing users to hear ambient sound well. Apple claimed that it was the H2 chip that provided the adaptive transparency mode.
Apple iOS 16.1 also adds a battery percentage for more iPhone models such as the iPhone 11 and iPhone 13 mini.
