2048 stream processors and 8GB of memory for $ 385. Characteristics of the AMD Radeon RX 6500 graphics card, which will definitely not be of interest to miners

Yesterday the sales of the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT video card started, and today the detailed characteristics of the promising 3D-card Radeon RX 6500 based on GPU Navi 23 appeared on the Web. And even its cost is called!

This is what the Radeon RX 6700 XT looks like, but the RX 6500 will clearly be more compact

The source says that the codename Navi 23 is Dimgrey Cavefish. Earlier this designation has already appeared in AMD drivers for Linux and MacOS, which increases the credibility of the current leak. So, Navi 23 is assigned 32 execution units and 2048 stream processors – a quarter less than Navi 22.

The Radeon RX 6500 AMD continues the tradition of the older RDNA 2 architecture: with a narrow memory bus and fast Infinity Cache as compensation. In this case, the memory bus width is 128 bits and the Infinity Cache size is 64 MB. Miners will definitely not like this feature of the new item, but the gaming performance does not suffer. At least for Full HD gaming, the Radeon RX 6500 should do just fine. As for the amount of memory, it is very decent for such a model – 8 GB GDDR6 at 16 GHz. According to an insider, the Navi 23 has a 236mm2 crystal area – 100mm2 less than the Navi 22.

Now the fun part is the cost. According to the source, the Radeon RX 6500 will cost about $ 385, but this is clearly the price of the reference version, and more will be asked for overclocked versions with modified power and cooling subsystems. Probably even much more. The Radeon RX 6500 will compete with the GeForce RTX 3050, and it is possible that both of these video cards will debut at the same time. For example, in April.

A little more than two months remain until the end of 2021, and TrendForce experts have just analyzed the situation with the supply of SSD modules in 2020. They concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the supply of these products. Affected by the disruption of production and logistics processes, which began in the second quarter, when governments around the world began to impose restrictions, in their opinion, necessary to combat the pandemic. As a result, the supply of SSDs to the channel (retail sales) amounted to 111.5 million units, which is 15% less than in 2019. As for the market leaders, the top three remained unchanged: Kingston, Adata and Kimtigo.

Analysts clarify that when looking at the overall solid-state drive market, NAND flash vendors, led by Samsung, accounted for about 35% of total shipments in 2020, with solid-state drive module makers accounting for the remaining 65%. The top ten module manufacturers provide 71% of SSD shipments per channel. Their shares are shown in the press release published by TrendForce in the form of a table:

No, the Apple M1 Max SoC is not capable of competing with the GeForce RTX 2080, but the performance is very high. There were tests of the new MacBook Pro in games

The GPU performance in the Apple M1 Max SoC exceeds 10 TFLOPS, which can be compared with the PS5 or GeForce RTX 2080. But the TFLOPS figure is not directly related to the performance in games. And now we have the opportunity to assess what Apple’s solution is capable of in games.

And it is really capable of a lot. In Tomb Rider, the top-end Apple platform performs at the level of the mobile GeForce RTX 3060. Yes, we are talking about the 70-watt version, that is, almost the slowest. Recall that the RTX 3060 for laptops has a power limit ranging from 60 to 115 watts.

However, we are still talking about a very productive mobile video card of the most modern generation. Yes, you need to wait for tests in more games to put together a more complete picture, but you can state the very high performance of Apple’s solution right now. M1 Pro, by the way, also looks decent. This is roughly the level of mobile GeForce RTX 3050 Ti or RTX 3050.

Of course, the MacBook Pro is not bought for games at all, since the situation with games on macOS is not easy. However, this does not prevent us from evaluating the new Apple SoCs simply in terms of their capabilities.
