20 hours of battery life, 24 GB of unified memory and the latest Apple M2 SoC. New MacBook Pro 13 unveiled
Along with the all-new MacBook Air, Apple today unveiled the updated MacBook Pro 13, the world’s second most popular laptop after the MacBook Air itself.
Unlike Air, there is no completely new case, the Touch Bar is also preserved, the hardware platform is a completely new 5-nanometer Apple M2 with an 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU and 24 GB of unified memory. The maximum amount of SSD, as in the case of Air, is 2 TB.
The MacBook Pro 13 has an active cooling system, so we are not talking about completely silent operation, as is the case with the Air. There is also a Retina screen, USB-C ports with Thunderbolt interface, Wi-Fi 6 adapter. The maximum autonomy is 20 hours of video playback.
The updated MacBook Pro 13 will go on sale next month. The price starts at $1,300 for regular customers and $1,200 for educational institutions.

An unusual small but very thick laptop with an ortholinear keyboard and Arm platforms. MNT Pocket Reform introduced

The era of netbooks is long gone, and there are very few mobile PCs on the market with screens smaller than 10 inches. The new MNT Pocket Reform is one of those.
But in fact, this laptop was not created at all for the sake of compactness, because, despite the small screen, the dimensions here are very far from optimal, and the thickness can terrify those accustomed to modern ultrabooks.
From the photos you can already understand what the device looks like and why compactness is not at the forefront here. Dimensions are equal to 200 x 126 x 45 mm, and the weight is not indicated at all.
In addition to the unusual design, another highlight of the novelty is the ortholinear keyboard. Not everyone is comfortable using these, which should be considered before buying.
Further unusual solutions do not end there. The heart of the novelty is not an Intel or AMD processor at all. It is based on a platform based on SoC NXP i.MX8M Plus with 4 or 8 GB of RAM. The platform is removable, so that it can be replaced with something else. The company itself also offers several other options as options:
- NXP Layerscape LS1028A
- Raspberry Pi CM4
- Pine SOQuartz RK3566
- FPGA AMD/Xilinx Kintex-7
In addition, a platform from the MNT Reform model can be inserted into the PC.
The seven-inch screen is characterized by Full HD resolution. There are Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 adapters, a 4G or 5G modem (optional), up to 128 GB of flash memory, an SSD slot, a microSD slot, and an 8000 mAh battery.
The body can be made from anodized aluminum or recycled plastic to choose from. The set of ports includes a pair of USB-C, Industrial Ethernet and micro-HDMI.
Given the platform, it is clear that Windows is out of the question. The PC supports Debian GNU/Linux, Arch, Ubuntu, Void, Plan 9, Genode and OpenBSD.
No pricing details yet, but pre-orders will begin in July.

Apple’s mixed reality headset will be more powerful than many laptops. She will receive SoC Apple M2

Apple’s mixed reality headset should get the M2 single-chip system. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman thinks so.
Earlier it was said that the headset will receive SoC M1, but apparently Apple has changed the configuration. It is also worth remembering that the current leaks speak of two platforms, and the second will be responsible for processing data from the device’s numerous sensors.
The headset will receive M2 with 16 GB of memory, that is, the performance of the device will be higher than that of many laptops on the market. At the same time, various rumors suggest that Apple has previously encountered the problem of overheating of the headset, so such a powerful platform, apparently, is also a minus.
At the moment, the headset is expected to be introduced in early 2023. It is also likely that for the first time Apple will show it at an event in the fall, but the device will enter the market next year.

More than 16 hours of continuous work – this is the autonomy of the new MacBook Pro 13 on M2

Apple laptops, thanks to Apple Silicon processors, stand out for their incredible autonomy. The latest MacBook Pro 13 based on the Apple M2 SoC is no exception.
The Verge journalist decided to check how long the new MacBook Pro will last in the mode of a full-fledged working system, when there is no goal to squeeze the maximum autonomy out of the PC.
The test started at 20:00. The author launched a browser with a dozen tabs, Spotify and set the brightness to 50%. Later on, the load on the PC increased as additional applications were launched, including Google Docs, After Effects, Instagram, Swift Playgrounds 4 game, PugetBench, Lightroom and so on. It is also worth noting that from 2:13 to 8:15, while the author was sleeping, YouTube was running on the laptop.
As a result, around 12:30 the laptop still turned off. He worked 16 hours and 30 minutes. The load at the same time quite corresponded to some conditionally average. If limited, for example, to the browser and typing, the laptop will probably last even longer.
