Apple at WWDC 2022 introduced its new single-chip system – M2. It is designed to replace the M1, which has become revolutionary for the company’s computers. However, while devices on M1 and M2 will be sold in parallel. The first Apple computers on the M2 were the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13.

The Apple M2 is slightly larger than the Apple M1 – this is well illustrated by the picture above. At the same time, these platforms have different manufacturing processes: 5 nm for M2 and 7 nm for M1 (moreover, M2 is manufactured using a 5-nanometer process technology of the second generation). This means that it consumes less than the M1, but at the same time the performance is higher: an increase in the CPU part is 18%, in the GPU part it is 35%.

The eight-core CPU of the platform is represented by four high-performance cores with 16 MB of shared cache and four energy-efficient cores with 4 MB of shared cache. The 10-core GPU received more cache than the M1 GPU, and its performance is 3.6 TFLOPS.

Also in the SoC configuration is a 16-core neural processor for accelerating AI tasks and a so-called “media engine” for hardware video decoding, including H.264, HEVC and ProRes resolutions up to 8K. This is important for those who work professionally with video. Finally, the SoC received up to 24 GB of unified memory (LPDDR5) with a bandwidth of 100 GB / s.

During the presentation, Apple compared the performance of the M2 with its counterparts – 10- and 12-core processors. What kind of CPU, the company did not specify, but, apparently, the M2 was compared with representatives of the Alder Lake family. Of course, the M2 turned out to be better: it has higher performance with less power consumption, which is not surprising, given the peculiarities of Apple and Intel architectures.

TSMC is obviously responsible for the release of the Apple M2. A single-chip system consists of 20 billion transistors.

Also, the novelty is credited with support for Dolby Vision technology. The case will be all-metal and very thin – the thickness will be only 14.9 mm. The teaser picture indicates the presence of at least one USB-C port, but there will most likely be two.

There are no other technical details about the Mi Notebook Pro 2022, but Chinese sources believe that the laptops in the line will use the latest Intel and AMD CPUs – Core 12 (Alder Lake) and AMD Ryzen 6000.

The growing company Infinix decided to compete with the giants of the market for ultra-fast charges and introduced the 180W Thunder Charge.

As the name suggests, this is 180W fast charging technology. Unlike Ultra Fast Charge 160W technology, which was just a concept, 180-watt charging will appear in the company’s smartphones, and already at the end of this year. It will debut in a flagship smartphone, but there are no details about it yet.

Infinix says this technology will allow a 4,500 mAh battery to be charged up to 50% in 4 minutes. How much will be needed for a full charge, the company does not say, but you should not multiply the indicated time by two.

Since we are talking about huge power for a mobile device, 180W Thunder Charge technology has received 111 software and hardware security mechanisms that monitor many different indicators, including temperature, voltage, electromagnetic interference, and so on.

It also implies the presence of 20 temperature sensors that will monitor the temperature of the battery, USB-C port, converters, and so on. The system will focus on keeping the temperature below 43 degrees.

Also Infinix will use special cables with identification chips. Only with such a cable will ultra-fast charging be activated. In the case of other cables, charging will still be fast: 60 or 100 watts.

The company Mojo Vision recently spoke about its new development – contact lenses with augmented reality. They were tested by the head of the company, Drew Perkins. With the help of lenses, he was able to navigate in space, looked at images and even read text from a virtual teleprompter.

The current prototype is equipped with a MicroLED screen with a resolution of 250 by 250 pixels, its diameter is only 0.5 mm. The lenses receive a signal at a frequency of 5 GHz and work on the basis of a very small processor with Arm architecture. This allows them to overlay digital objects on top of the real world image.

The prototype already knows how to track the direction of view so that virtual objects always remain in view. Extremely small batteries are used for power, but it is not yet known how much they last.
